Barbie: Princess Charm School is a direct-to-DVD, 2011-computer-animated film, directed by Zeke Norton, which was released on September 13, 2011 in the US and on August 28 in the UK.
Plot
Barbie stars as Blair Willows, a kind-hearted, regular young girl who lives within the city of Gardania with her sickly mother and younger sister, while working vigorously as a waitress in order to help better support them.
When Blair comes home from working at "Cafe Gardania," Emily, her younger sister, is watching the annual "Princess Procession" on TV, which involves princesses from many other kingdoms coming to enroll at the original Princess Charm School (a magical, modern place which teaches dancing, how to have tea parties, and general, proper princess etiquette). In addition, each semester one commoner is also allowed enrollment if she wins the "lottery" that awards her a full scholarship, as well as the chance to become a "Lady Royal," a princess's most trusted adviser.
Then, the lottery winner is announced: Blair Willows. Blair never entered for the lottery, but this is because Emily secretly entered for Blair five or six times everyday for a year. Initially, Blair doesn't want to leave her responsibilities to her family behind, but her mother, who sees it as a good opportunity for her daughter manages to convince her.
Blair then leaves her family. Upon arrival, she is greeted by a dog named Prince who is usually shy. In school, each student has a fairy to be their personal assistant. Blair's magical sprite is Grace. Blair also meets new friends: Isla, a timid girl who is also a talented musician, and Hadley, an outgoing, tomboyish, star athlete, who become her new roommates.
One of the teachers, Dame Devin, announces in a welcome ceremony that she will soon quit instructing after her daughter, Delancy becomes the new princess of Gardania at the end of the semester. She goes on to explain that both she and her daughter have lived at the royal palace since the time of her sister-in-law, Queen Isabella, and her family's death within a car crash many years ago. Isla and Hadley, seated with the rest of their fellow students, then quietly discuss with Blair a well known legend which states that not everyone from the Royal Family had died. They have curtseying after the welcome ceremony, and Blair gets distracted by Hadley and Isla and bumps into Delancy. Delancy develops a strong dislike for Blair ever since they've met.
At a class, Blair becomes pessimistic after she sees Delancy walking with a high stack of books on her head without a problem, when she can't even balance one. Many of the girls have problems too, but when Dame Devin sees Blair's eyes, she becomes shocked. She tells Blair to get out of her class and tells her she doesn't belong.
At a ballroom class, Blair knocks over Portia, Delancy's friend, and is kept behind after class. Miss Privet tells her that she was almost going to expel Blair by Dame Devin's request, but Miss Privet knows about how Blair wants to become a Lady Royal to help her family, so she wants to personally tutor her. She tells Blair that being a princess is about character and confidence. One without the other is a problem, and she tells Blair that no one can make her feel inferior without her consent. With help from Miss Privet, Blair greatly improves in her balance, grace, dancing and courage.
In winter, Prince Charming Academy students have a dance class with Princess Charm School students. Blair has the advantage of dancing with Nicholas.
One day, Blair and her friends' uniforms are ruined. They must attend the class at the castle, so they fashioned their own clothes using the fabrics of their ruined uniforms. They made it to the castle, and were allowed to enter without the proper uniform.
They were given a chance to explore the castle's first floor. There, they find a portrait of Queen Isabella when she was 18 (who looks almost exactly like Blair), and the royal family, together with the royal dog, Prince. These made Blair to question her identity, while Hadley and Isla assumes that Blair is the baby in the photo. Apparently, Blair takes this lightly. Unknown to them, Delancy was listening and became worried about the truth.
Dame Devin later wants to bulldoze the beggared areas of Gardania and create parks in its stead, in order to make the overall kingdom more beautiful. Blair is shocked appalled by this, and informs her that her family lives there, but Dame Devin heartlessly remarks that she should then leave the school immediately in order to move her family to a new home in time. Blair tries to talk some sense into Delancy, instead, but Delancy remains silent despite being concerned, herself, worried over what her mother will do further once she is princess.
Blair runs away in tears, feeling utterly broken and defeated. She does do as Dame Devin had instructed and packs up her belongings in order to leave the school once and for all; however, upon gazing at her sister Emily's sent drawing, decides to stay and to finally fight back.
Blair purposes to find the magical crown so that she can use it to prove that she is the rightful heir, and thus successfully stop Dame Devin and Delancy's plans. Blair, Hadley and Isla successfully find the crown (with the secret help of Delancy), but Dame Devin found them and locked the three. Later, they finally got out.
Blair returns to the palace (during which the coronation is taking place) and claims that she is Princess Sophia. She and Dame Devin fight for the crown, but Delancy finally catches it. She decides to give the crown to Blair instead of her mother. Blair is then transformed to be Princess Sophia, and Dame Devin declares that she has killed the queen so Delancy can be the princess, so she is arrested.
Blair chooses Delancy to be the Lady Royal. In the end, Nicholas comes again. Blair also introduces Emily and her mother. Then her family lived in the palace.
