Welcome!
Dear all, Welcome to my user page! I've been an official member of Wikipedia since 2009, although I have been frequenting the site for far longer. I am 22 year old college senior studying history and geography. Upon graduation, I hope to continue my education at one of several prestigious English universities, with the ultimate goal of earning a Ph.D in medieval or Renaissance-era studies.
Some people call me old fashioned. Perhaps I am. That's all I'll say about it.
My primary reason for joining Wikipedia? I want to participate in what I believe is one of the greatest examples of human ingenuity and communal cooperation. I admire each and every individual for taking time out of their personal lives to ensure unfettered access to the most consolidated body of knowledge on the internet. I am continually amazed at the quality and dedication of Wikipedia's contributors.
My editing philosophy is simple - stay away from the more dynamic topics, like recent history, contemporary politics, etc. These fields are constantly changing and, as such, occupy considerable interest throughout the Wikipedia community; I'm surely not needed here. I have no interest in engaging in any sort of edit war or other such nonsense. Instead, my goal is to fill in the gaps, to get rid of all that red text linking to those obscure and sadly forgotten topics. I will try to stay within my areas of interest.
I also seek out and correct grammar, syntax, and vandalism.

Interests
I love almost all history - all eras, all places and most types. I am most interested in European history, with a focus on socio-cultural and political history.
- The Hundred Years' War
- History of England
- English Monarchy. Dieu et mon droit
- Chivalry & Kingship
- Political, Social and Cultural History
- Medieval Christianity, Medieval Theology, Heresy, and the Medieval Church institution more generally
- 18th & 19th-century European society and culture
- Tsarist Russia/Russian Empire
- Naval History
I'm also a geographer. We "study of the Earth and its lands, features, inhabitants, and phenomena" - the relationship between people and space. Instead of asking what, we ask why, and we pull from culture, politics, the environment, etc. to explore questions of geopolitics, race relations, development of cultures and ideologies...the list goes on. I am most interested in two fairly specific parts:
- Cartography - maps are drawn by those in power to show what they want the maps to show. As such, map symbology and semiotics can be extremely powerful tools in the right hands.
- The historical relationship between people (nations) and states. Do states always represent the nation? Generally, no...but how do states maintain power, control, and legitimacy despite this?
- There is only one nation-state (by the actual meaning) on Earth...special prize if you can guess which!
I'm not just a bookworm. I enjoy a lot of other things, including:
- Astronomy
- Battlestar Galactica
- Film, almost all genres
- Fine Wines (& spirits on occasion)
- Horses
- Reading
- Travel. I want to see the world, and perhaps one day I will.
- Writing
To-do List
Like the Voyager probes, I'm aimlessly drifting through the Wikipedia traverse. Basically I am just looking for something, anything, that is first, interesting, and second, in dire need of attention.
- Clean up Edward of Woodstock, "The Black Prince" article
SMS Danzig DE --> EN translation- Upload ship images for WikiProject:Ships
- Create article for the Edenton-class salvage and repair ship
- Create article for the Appalachian class command ship
