Expansion

To anyone who wants to expand the article, I think the reference I submitted contains significant info regarding the university's history and academic courses. --Lenticel 06:19, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reviewing the article Arellano University.
GA review (see here for criteria)
  1. It is reasonably well written.
The prose is clear and concise, and the spelling and grammar was correct for the most part. I corrected the remaining grammar errors. This article also complies with the manual of style guidelines for lead sections, layout, words to watch, fiction, and list incorporation.
  2. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
The article has no citations for the following sections: campus, administration and organization, student life. However, the citations for the rest of the article appear to be appropriate. 24 of the 33 references used is also originating from Arellano University itself (as per WP:RS). Further diversification of citations may be necessary.
  3. It is broad in its coverage.
The article requires serious expansion in several key areas. Notably, the article is lacking information on administration, academics, research and noted people. The history section is done rather well, however expanding the history section (along with the other noted sections), would push this article to GA status. For more information on proper coverage for universities and colleges, please read university article structure.
  4. Neutral: it represents viewpoints fairly and without bias.
The article itself appears to be neutral and without bias for or against the university.
  5. It is stable.
The article appears to be stable as the majority of the recent edits on the page has been conducted by the article's nominee himself.
  6. It is illustrated by images, where possible and appropriate.
Article uses five images. All images are used properly in relation to section they are in. All images are free, and do not violate any copyright.
  1. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:
This article holds potential for a GA class article, unfortunately however, GA status articles would have to pass most or all of the GA list criteria. If you would like to get this page promoted, I suggest addressing issues such as content as well as citations. Several aspects of content and style need to be addressed. Again I suggest to go read the university article structure for see exactly what the content of a GA article should at least have. The page also contains the list of featured articles, featured list and good articles in there if you require further examples. While for the majority of the article, citation wasn't an issue, several sections of the article and several claims have been made without proper citations, which is another inhibitor towards promoting this article to GA status. I would suggest further styling work on the Academic section as it currently reads out as a list as opposed to a professional encyclopedic entry.

Nomination as GA Article

As the nominator, I approve the article to be promoted to GA Status. I have reviewed the article and according to my review, the article could attain GA Status.

Research University

The University is not a research university. There are only three universities of that kind, the University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University, and De La Salle University. Isko1901 (talk) 19:46, 5 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I would be very much interested to see your source regarding this. AFAIK, the Carnegie classification only applies to American universities listed by Carnegie. Moray An Par (talk) 11:04, 21 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

In the Philippine experience, there is no clear-cut qualification of how a University/College can be considered a research university. However, the basis of my premise is due to the fact that these schools are considered so in discussions within the academic and scientific community. In addition, these universities are part of international networks of universities in which members are mainly research-oriented. Isko1901 (talk) 03:23, 23 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect

I redirected campus articles to here per Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Arellano University Plaridel Campus, which curiously wasn't really enforced. Well I did it now. Individual campuses of Arellano are not notable since they are not individual Arellano Universities (compare to University of the Philippines and University of California). 4ICU Ranking

There is no sense in putting the 4ICU ranking because it is not a credible organization that ranks Philippine schools, since it is a mere popularity ranking and nothing academic. It does not analyze on basis of the 3 primary considerations utilized by CHED and PRC when they rank schools such as accreditation, board exam results, and CHED citations (center of excellence and development). Isko1901 (talk) 03:28, 23 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Constituent universities

Can we get a source that confirms that Arellano campuses are individual universities? AFAIK, they are only campuses/locations. Hence, there is just a single Arellano University (not a system of Arellano Universities) spread over different locations. I'll do searching regarding this too. Moray An Par (talk) 05:59, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Agree. Multiple-campus universities are not necessarily university systems. If we qualify Arellano as a University system, and campuses as individual universities, then the same goes with other universities with small satellite campuses. Isko1901 (talk) 06:10, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This says "At present, the Arellano University System boasts of seven campuses, as follows:" I'll try finding a source independent of Arellano as I still have doubts that individual Arellano campuses are distinct Arellano Universties. Moray An Par (talk) 06:11, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Criteria for "university status" grant from CHED Some Arellano campuses only offer a handful of degrees. I doubt that they even pass the criteria. Moray An Par (talk) 06:13, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Arguments that support the one Arellano University in multiple locations assumption of mine:

  1. List of colleges is centralized, not presented as a list of colleges per campus
  2. AU Pasay says AU in Pasay. This argument is weak though since many American universities use this kind of nomenclature (mother university IN/AT location) and yet are considered individual universities.
  3. All AU campuses, except Manila, have no graduate programs thus failing criterion 3.1.3 of the CHED guideline for "university status" grant.

I'll change the article wording accordingly. Moray An Par (talk) 06:30, 24 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
