180: Changing the Heart of a Nation (also known as 180 or 180 Movie) is a 33-minute documentary produced by Way of the Master TV show co-host, Ray Comfort. It is notable for comparing abortions to the Holocaust.[1] The film is distributed by Living Waters Publications on DVD and is also available for free viewing on the official website.

History

According to Comfort, "180 wasn’t the video I meant to produce. I wrote a book called Hitler, God, and the Bible and asked my publisher World Net Daily if they would like a free video to go with the book. They said they would, so I ended up interviewing 14 people—mainly university students, who had no idea who Adolf Hitler was.” Comfort also filmed two neo-Nazis and a Russian Jew who lost loved ones to Nazis. Those interviewed in 180 are put into a moral dilemma: “It’s 1943. A German officer has a gun pointed at you. He wants you to get in to a bulldozer and drive it forward. In front of the bulldozer is a pit in which there are 300 Jews who have just been shot. Some of them are still alive. He wants you to bury them alive! If you don’t do what he says, he is going to kill you and do it himself. If you do what he says, he will let you live. Would you drive it forward?” Comfort said, “If the person would refuse to bury them, on a compassion basis, I would ask “So, how then do you feel about abortion?” and then asked them one other question, and was amazed at how many did a complete 180 and changed from being adamantly pro-abortion, to being pro-life, in seconds“[2]

Reception

Within days, the film 180 had over half a million views on YouTube[citation needed]. On October 18, 2011, 23 days after the film's release, 180 hit one million views on YouTube [citation needed]. On October 12, 2011, The Huffington Post wrote a critical article about 180. The article quoted Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel, who said in a 1991 interview with On The Issues Magazine, "It is blasphemy to reduce a tragedy of such monumental proportions to this human tragedy, and abortion is a human tragedy."[1] In a press release Ray Comfort responded, "Nearly 60 million Americans have been slaughtered by abortion, and that’s ten times the amount of Jews who died under the Nazis. So as far as numbers are concerned, there is no comparison."[3]

According to The Huffington Post, "the film, which shows a series of graphic images, is gaining attention not only because of its controversial comparison, but because it highlights 14 people who do not know who Adolf Hitler was".[1]

180 has been endorsed by Joni Eareckson Tada, Kay Arthur, John Piper, Ken Ham, Randy Alcorn, Mark Hall, Francis Chan, and Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar.[4]
