Roald als title page

Hi. I've went ahead and fixed the problem. That is a fairly common mistake, with a simple solution. The page is now located at Roald Als and if you type Roald als, you will be automatically redirected to the correct page. For more information about what I've done, see Help:Moving a page. - Rjd0060 (talk) 14:05, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your prompt response. I very much appreciate the help. CactusWriter (talk) 05:10, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Joseph Gatt

Hi

Thanks for your comments and edits on Joseph Gatt.

I've fixed the internal errors bar one. Can you take a quick look for me and determine what I've done wrong? It's reference 11 (Pulse).

Thanks again,

Tegan Summer (talk) 00:41, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Regarding the reference 11 entry, it was only missing the two ending brackets -- and that's easy to overlook. I went ahead and added them. CactusWriter (talk) 01:29, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

albums, songs, and other media cannot be deleted via speedy as non notable. See WP:CSD. DGG (talk) 03:06, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for posting the reminder to me about WP:CSD. Without a doubt, there are times I have been too quick to pull the speedy delete trigger. Although it's much easier to discard the seemingly trivial stuff, I do believe it's better -- and broader-minded -- and more rewarding -- to help it along instead. I need to be reminded of that occasionally. CactusWriter (talk) 12:35, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Danish films

Oh please develop the lists as much as you can. I initially started them all but I only managed to do a few from the 1930s - in fact I was the one who started The Vicar of Veljby and the others ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 19:45, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

But see American films of 1949 etc for what I expect for table formatting. The top one should be formatted so it fits in the gap between the margin and the template but the ones underneath are different ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 19:50, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks ah yes I started all of the film lists around the world. I'm sorry I haven't had the time to dedicate to developing everyone of them fully. I've even been developing countries like Italy by year too like Italian films of 1950 , South Korean films of 2005, Bollywood films of 1972 etc. No actually I started the George Scheevort article and added some of his films from the 1930s. Seeing danish wikipedia it has like articles on every single one of the actors in the films so I thought I'd add a few. Some of them happened to have the same actors in though. If somebody is actively devleoping them there is more of a chance I'll continue with it, I think its fascinating getting these articles on here in english and learning about a cinema that very few of us know about. Most important thing is that all of the feature films released by year are added to the lists. Then articles on actors/directors can be filled in. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 20:18, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Well a site which caters for just about everything is naturally a highly attractive and luring one. I've just started Next Stop Paradise and recognized a few of the actors I started before in it. The more films that are red linked in the lists the quicker they can get started. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 20:39, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

If you are interested WP:Films is always on the look out for new task forces. If you would be interested in a work group assigned to develop danish cinema properly I would be willing to support you ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 20:44, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:MaratsadeDVDcover.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:MaratsadeDVDcover.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:15, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

Done Thanks for the reminder about this image. After a discussion, the editors of the article for which it was intended agreed to use a different image. I forgot that I had left this hanging in limbo. I've submitted it for speedy deletion. CactusWriter (talk) 14:36, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

Keane

You're very welcome! And thanks for the banner.  :) Katharineamy (talk) 18:20, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Bil Keane

William Keane redirects to Bil Keane. The disambiguation notice is appropriate. Alternatively, William Keane can redirect to the bishop and the bishop's page can have a disambig tag. But the way it is now just doesn't work if someone types in William Keane and is looking for the bishop. Nevermind, I'm going to make this a full disambig page. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 20:26, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

You're right -- my mistake -- removing the disambiguation notice didn't work like I was thinking. I was going to revert it back. But a disambig page would be fine, too. CactusWriter 20:34, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
Done. Well, considering there are two notable actors with similar names, and one of them was already incorrectly blue-linked to William Keane.... davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 20:38, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. Nicely done. I think there's also an American artist named William Keane. And probably more will eventually show up CactusWriter 20:43, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

According to the website, the Bodil awards has a category of "Bedste ikke-europæiske film". In 1969, it was own by "Sangen om vejen af Satyajit Ray". But Bodil Award for Best Non-American Film does not list it. can you please see to it? (No knowledge of Danish is a hurdle for me, otherwise I would have tried to probe further).--Dwaipayan (talk) 04:55, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing out that problem. The problem with these pages is that the Bodil Awards changed categories twice -- trying to be inclusive of film from outside Europe or the US. From 1961 to 2001, the Bodil Award for Best American Film category was actually called the Best Non-European category (meaning all films outside Europe), and then changed back again in 2001. So Ray's pictures (which won twice in the 60's) ended up being listed on the American awards page. Which is foolish, of course. I guess, the best thing is for me to create two new pages which will list the Bodil Award for Best Non-European Film (1961-2001) as well as the Bodil Award for Best European Film (1948-2001) which later became the Best Non-American Category. CactusWriter 06:09, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
Yes, IMO, creating those two pages would solve the problem. Thanks a lot. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 06:25, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Keane/McGruder Issue

I had no idea that Aaron McGruder struck out against Bil Keane and the others in a New Yorker article in 2004. The incident in question that McGruder took offense to ocurred in 2000 and it is listed in his biography on IMBD as the starting point of his rivalry with Keane (that's how I initially found out about it). I agree that it's a non-issue for Keane [no article or website I found had any criticism towards McGruder, although one article came as close as I've ever seen to Keane criticizing other comic strip artists and a complaint about the changing landscape in general (http://www.americancatholic.org/messenger/nov2001/feature1.asp)], but McGruder sees it very differently. I found a working link to the New Yorker article, so I was going to add it to the McGruder article, but it appears to already be used (but not in context of how he feels about other comic artists). His article could use a little sprucing up, so maybe a new section on his one-sided rivalry with Keane can be added. I need to spend some time reading the article, because it appears, at first blush, to be critical of the contemporary African-American comics that were being published before he came on the scene, and some of that might be worth mentioning in his entry as well. SailorAlphaCentauri (talk) 16:20, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Interestingly enough, I found the interview Aaron McGruder gave to the Onion where he says he felt misrepresented in his New Yorker article (http://www.avclub.com/content/node/42840), so who knows where the truth lies with this guy. SailorAlphaCentauri (talk) 18:23, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
I agree with you that the Aaron McGruder article needs to be modernized a bit. As far as his controversy with other cartoonists, I think McGruder felt antagonistic toward the 'old guard' of the cartoonists community -- who tended to be mostly elderly, white, conservative guys like Keane, Walker, Hart, Schulz, etc. -- and he reacted accordingly. (Which is actually a fairly common reaction among young cartoonists trying to find a rare break in a very, very limited marketspace like newspaper comics. Watterson, Breathed, Trudeau all had similar run-ins with the older established guys.) I had also heard that McGruder criticized the earlier African-American cartoonists like Morrie Turner -- although, as far as I know, Turner never reacted to it. But, I do think the AV club article you found is interesting. It shows McGruder in a much better light -- and probably indicates the natural differences between the thoughts and reactions of a inexperienced 26-year-old back in 2000, and a more mature 34-year-old now. Bil Keane

Why did you remove the placeholder/image-request image for Bil Keane? It's commonly used to get people's attention that an image is wanted. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 11:37, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi, david. I'm getting conflicting messages about the use of image placeholders. According to a long (long, long) discussion in WP:Biography in April, it seems there is a new consensus against the use of them in infoboxes. I've only just found out about it because someone zipped through several of my pages and removed the placeholders. I was going through the bios on my watchlist and tidying them up -- including removing the placeholders -- only because I'd prefer to sit out a battle over something fairly minor. However, I am in agreement with you -- I don't mind them and they do serve a good purpose. So, I am not sure what to do about this. As far as an image for the Bil Keane page, I'll find one to upload and that should take care of that page -- at least regarding the image. CactusWriter 12:26, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
Hmm, looks like it's time to reopen the discussion at WPBiography. If they are to be discouraged then the image description needs to be update to say "do not use on new articles," with a link to the discussion. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 13:28, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Since you added the "controversy" tag there has been no discussion on the talk page. And nobody has responded to my request for discussion, so it's impossible to achieve a consensus. I did revert a major rewrite of the article which was very one-sided but the author of the rewrite hasn't protested about the revert. I'm not sure now how to proceed. As the trial is now over, I'd like to finish work on the article so that it reflects the NPOV policy. --Mia-etol (talk) 07:02, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

I think you've certainly been very fair -- as well as patient -- in your requests for discussion. Given the lack of response, I think you should just go ahead and work on the article (NPOV, of course). If anyone has a problem, the discussion will begin quickly enough. By the way, from the start I have felt that "Raytheon 9" might be the wrong title for this article. I thought that perhaps this should be an article about the Derry Anti-War Coalition with Raytheon 9 as a subheading. At any rate, there should be an explanation given about the DAWC (history, organization, and goals) if not on the Raytheon article, than on its own page. Perhaps you can consider this? American films

I am desperately seeking for people to help complete those lists. You'll find most of the odd years e.g 1973 1975 etc are not completed and contain many foreign films which should be rmeoved asap. The lists were drawn using the main categories this is why some foreign titles may remain. Please please help clean them up and fill in the tables to good use. I did a great deal of work on setting them up and filled in pages like American films of 1936 etc but found it too large to completely do by myself. Remember that I started the entirety of the world lists including the List of British films too -I need more hands!! Thanks ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 19:50, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

Hello CactusWriter. Regarding the Atlantis article. The plot is wrong. von Kammacher is not looking for a cure and he doesn't find a cure. Rather his wife dies and Eva Burns promises to be a good mother to his children and they both return to Copenhagen. Rune X2 (talk) 08:29, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

Nyrva Dragonrhyne

Hello, you deleted my article about "Nyrva Dragonrhyne" - I did not get a chance to add the pictures and other materials to make the article "worth posting". Why do you allow posts like ones about movies and stuff if you will not allow posts like this about artist's fictional characters? (Do a search on Google for "Nyrva Dragonrhyne" it comes up a lot!) This is not my character. But I know the artist and he gave me permission to post the article.

Please help. Thanks!

Witaku —Preceding unsigned comment added by Witaku (talkcontribs) 01:27, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi, Witaku and welcome to Wikipedia. I was not the one who deleted the article you created. I tagged it for deletion because it lacked notability -- and it was subsequently deleted by an administrator after review. A Google search for "Nyrva Dragonrhyne" produces only 7 hits -- that is hardly "a lot." Two of the hits are deleted wiki pages and the other 5 are from self-published websites: facebook and deviantart, neither of which is a proper reference source. I think if you wish to write articles about fictional characters, it would be a good idea to review some of the Wikipedia guidelines for notability, such as Wikipedia:Notability (fiction)#Elements of fiction. And check out some of the articles about notable anime/manga characters already included in Wikipedia, such as Usagi Tsukino and Belldandy. This can help you in determining the suitability of future articles. Good luck CactusWriter 06:13, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
