== Article Edit Review? ==
Hello. I'm wondering if you could help me? I'm new to Wikipedia and I'm participating in the wikipedia partnership with my university, the University of Toronto. I'm a Master's of Information student (hopeful future librarian). I recently added a section to [[Library]] on Academic Libraries (under Types 2.3, I think). I was just wondering if you get the chance if you could have a look and make sure I did the edit right and provide some feedback? Thanks so much! Rape navbox

Hey, I saw your RfC for the creation of a rape navbox. I think it's a good idea; however, I have a couple of suggestions. Namely:

  1. I'm not sure "raptio" belongs; it's rendered as "rape" in English, but aside from that linguistic oddity, there's nothing about it that makes it more suitable for the navbox than the general Forced marriage or Bride kidnapping articles. Which certainly can lead to rape, particularly as many of the cultures or jurisdictions in question don't/didn't recognize the right of a wife to refuse consent, but there are more than enough articles to populate a navbox while keeping the focus narrow.
  2. I feel as though "Sociological theories" and "Background/related" could be merged/grouped better. How's this:
  1. Effects and aftermath of rape, Rape trauma syndrome
  2. Anti-Rape Movement, Rape crisis center, and perhaps (?) Anti-rape device
  3. Rape pornography, Rape and revenge films, Rape fantasy
  4. Rape statistics, Rape by gender
  5. Sociobiological theories of rape, Motivation for rape, Rape culture, History of rape
There are probably other articles I'm not aware of that could also be added.
  1. Sociobiological theories of rape also appears to be functioning as a header for the other things in that row, but that doesn't reflect its actual relationship to those articles, so it probably shouldn't be used that way.

Hope this is helpful, Roscelese (talkcontribs) 08:05, 10 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! You're right; raptio doesn't really belong. I've removed it, and moved sociobiological theories out while doing a bit of tweaking. I'd rather there not be more than four rows, though, as this seems to me to be a bit lengthy for a navbox otherwise. But please do feel free to edit the navbox! You probably know better than I do what you're doing, and I certainly have no objection to it being edited while in my userspace. Apologies for the late reply. sonia 06:21, 27 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

AFC unref'd

So, I've been posting the 'please add refs' thing on the talk of users making new AFC's with no refs at all, and logging them in User:Chzz/afc unreferenced log. I'm doing this (semi) manually, for now; and think it's important to check them over, and see if it definitely 'works', sort of thing. And deal with any concerns.

It'd help a lot if you have any time to look at User:Chzz/afc unreferenced log and could check some, and add notes about what, if anything, happens (inline, indented) such as if it was declined/not notable, or if the user added refs, or whatever. You'll see I've added such comments on a few, but it takes time; hence asking you & OlEnglish for a bit of help, checking some.

A discussion about improving the help documentation inspired an idea--Wikipedia tutorials would be best if they were interactive and immersive. The thought of a learning-teaching game came up, one based on a real interface with realistic 'missions'. Would you be interested in providing some feedback or helping work on it? The idea is just getting started and any assistance with the help/policy side, the experienced-editor side, or the coding/game-making side would be great. Re above, maybe you can have a chat with NZ Author (talk · contribs)? They have had at least 3 of 4 articles they created in about 14 months deleted, though they don't edit all that much. The idea of notability and properly citing sources seems to be eluding them. I've dropped a few templates about sourcing and edit summaries, but haven't 'talked' directly with them. Watcha think? - 220.101 talk\Contribs 10:40, 12 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi.
  1. As far as I know, that's not speedyable as A7 or G2 or anything else.
  2. This and this, as well as my edit summary, might have been useful. It had been a whole of, what, half an hour when you left me this message.
I had everything open in tabs and was ready to begin translation and compiling info from dewiki and other sources, but was called away unexpectedly. Admittedly I should have thought to put an {{inuse}} on it or something or move it into userspace, but the situation at hand was a bit more pressing than doing so. Will make it less unilaterally deletable now. sonia 06:55, 3 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It's as well to remember that new page patrolling is generally of an unacceptable standard, and many patrollers are very quick to tag. Most of them don't do any research at all of the ES, page logs, or user logs, and more unfortunately, there are admins who also delete on the face value of CSD tags. It is always strongly advised to prepare new articles in user space; not everyone does, but I do. If you are interested, don't hesitate to ask me for links to the statistical research we are doing here and at MediaWiki on NPP and new page creations . --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 06:05, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Even as Sonia left it, which wasn't ideal, the only speedy deletion criteria that would have even been plausible would have been A3. A3, however, explicitly excludes any page with a non-trivial infobox, which this page had. Courcelles 06:19, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Question about my "Subpages" section

Thanks for putting all the scripts together, but when that was done something happened to the layout of my Subpages within the collapsible section on my userpage User:Shearonink. I'd like to kind of put things back the way they were but don't know how to toggle the appearance of

<div>Subpages for this user:{{Special:Prefixindex/User:Shearonink/}}{{Special:Prefixindex/User talk:Shearonink/}}</div>

or even if it changing the appearance back is possible. The issue is that I always used to know where to find links within that 'Subpages" section (kind of my own internal toolbox) but since they've moved around I don't know where to look right away. Not sure if this makes sense, but ping me the next time you see me in IRC and maybe you can talk me through how to possibly change it. Thanks, Shearonink (talk) 15:38, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I... did not even know you could transclude that special page. At a guess, what's happened is that /scripts has popped in in alphabetical order, pushing the pages that start with T or later down a bit; nothing else. Not sure that can be fixed. sonia 21:10, 31 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sonia,

I know this isn't your expertise area. I've been helping Damon.cluck with some Arkansas "American Civil War" articles helping to improve them because he approached me and kindly asked. On the 6th Arkansas Infantry Regiment there is a copyright note on one of the images (in the Infobox image), would you be able to see if you can work it out and put the right template for the image? It would be appreciated. Adamdaley (talk) 23:53, 29 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Envision Manifesto

Thank you for the EDUCATED reply. Sorry for my ignorance, I did not mean to target Wikipedia at all. I really shouldn't have targeted anyone in the first place. My apologies for my rude behavior. I do however need to find sources to cite my information, which may be quite difficult. Well, I do not mind. I am trying to make a difference, and time will not stop me. --UncleVisionary (talk) 05:53, 15 September 2011 (UTC) Now that I think about it...could you possibly look at my page? I have no clue how I would be able to pair anything up with that unless I took a standpoint along Anonymous or some sort, which I do not plan on doing (I plan on taking this on its own route). Any ideas? --UncleVisionary (talk) 05:55, 15 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. It's not so much that you've been rude, as such, as that you've just happened to trip over one of the many guidelines we have to keep this place sane, and no one's really sat down with you and explained how to avoid that. What I'd recommend, really, is getting your own website where you can publish your material however you like in your own space, add images, maybe testimonials once it starts having an impact. Plenty of free site-hosting places out there; it's something I've done myself in the past. It's the best way to ensure you have complete control, that you're not governed by someone else's rules for what can go on their website. When it's gotten some press coverage or similar, then feel free to let me know and I'll see what I can do toward assessing whether or not it passes our notability guidelines, and if so, work with you on the article. I hope this is what you meant! Any further questions or comments of any sort, leave them here underneath this reply-- I know it's a bit strange, but we leave messages at the bottom of pages 'round these parts, not the top. Cheers. sonia06:08, 15 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much for your help. I do plan on setting up a website for this, and I can use that as a source? Great. Found out what i'm doing this weekend. Thanks so much for the assistance, for I am a "newbie" with this stuff, and am trying to dive headfirst into it. Thanks Sonia. --UncleVisionary (talk) 06:21, 15 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm. What I meant is, you can spread word from your website, instead of from Wikipedia. Wikipedia's for reporting what has already been published about a subject, what press coverage or books or studies have been done on it. But, solely as advice, I meant that starting your own website is going to be a much better way to get things up and running than swimming upstream here at Wikipedia, until enough people have taken notice that it warrants a Wikipedia article. At that point, I'm more than happy to help with the "newbieness", get things looking and reading exactly how they should. But right now I don't think there's any way this article is going to be kept in its current condition. The order in general is "get noticed" then "get Wikipedia article", not vice versa. sonia07:05, 15 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Gotcha! Thanks for the help. I will probably stick around and help with articles that need editing now, haha. My page has been deleted, and website will be setup soon! Your input has helped me tons. --UncleVisionary (talk) 01:42, 16 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Update on courses and ambassador needs

Hello, Ambassadors!

I wanted to give you one last update on where we are this term, before my role as Online Facilitator wraps up at the end of this week. Already, there are over 800 students in U.S. classes who have signed up on course pages this term. About 40 classes are active, and we're expecting that many more again once all the classes are up and running.

On a personal note, it's been a huge honor to work with so many great Wikipedians over the last 15 months. Thanks so much to everyone who jumped in and decided to give the ambassador concept a try, and double thanks those of you who were involved early on. Your ideas and insights and enthusiasm have been the foundation of the program, and they will be the keys the future of the program.

Courses looking for Online Ambassadors

Still waiting to get involved with a class this term, or ready to take on more? We have seven classes that are already active and need OA support, and eleven more that have course pages started but don't have active students yet. Please consider joining one or more of these pods!

Survey of Female Wikipedians!

Hi Sonia! Haven't seen you around my part of the wiki much lately, how's it going? I thought you might be interested in this survey by User:SarahStierch. It's not very long, took me about 10 minutes, and the questions are fairly routine (i.e. non-intrusive). Here's a snippet of her message, with a link to the survey.

I have put together a survey for female editors of Wikipedia (and related projects) in order to explore, in greater detail, women's experiences and roles within the Wikimedia movement. It'd be wonderful if you could participate!

It's an independent survey, done by me, as a fellow volunteer Wikimedian. It is not being done on behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation. I hope you'll participate!

Just click this link to participate in this survey, via Google!

Not getting attacked on the way home would make the coming week better, and I certainly hope that'll be the case. sonia20:16, 4 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Reminder

Heya, here's the reminder you asked for. Text and conversation theory, you said they needed Harvrefs. :) Good day! —James (TalkContribs) • 9:41pm 11:41, 12 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Article of Creation

Hey sonia :), i was just wondering if I may be able to delete the pages of what I had created. The page was The One That Got Away, as I only summited it because the article was protect and was not completed, but after one day of notice it was later created again. So I was wondering if I can delete the pages, or can I transfer some information to the actual The One That Got Away (Katy Perry song article. Thanks :D (User:CaliforniaDreamsFan) (talk) 11:53 13 October, 2011

Help needed for a student class project

Please see Wikipedia:WikiProject Classroom coordination/SFSU Class Project and consider adding your name.

The scope of the Wikipedia:WikiProject Classroom coordination/SFSU Class Project is mainly concerned with new articles.

According to the teacher's instructions, this group of students may not create a lot of new articles, but may instead focus more on improving existing articles.

So, there may be little for us to do in the way the Wikipedia:WikiProject China/NNU Class Project required. The students may, however, still call on us for guidance in other areas. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 09:14, 14 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Not entirely sure why I'm getting this. I'm a young(ish) adult working with kids, sure, but it's...not exactly a talkback if I haven't talked yet. sonia07:32, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

So are you a Christian then? — Preceding unsigned comment added by FamilyForce5Freak (talkcontribs) 03:04, 21 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

To be honest, I've received so many conflicting definitions of "Christian" that I'm really not sure if I am. sonia07:32, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Something you said you might be able to help with ...

Please drop in at the talk page here and say hi to Zoeyeve (on this article!) You said you might well be able to help neutralify the article, which is now in user space, before it goes back into mainspace. It's mainly a question of f inding really decent sources for the guy's publications in peer-reviewed journals etc (to show that he's a genuinely qualified chappie, etc.), removing weasel words and puffery, and all that stuff. You know what I mean. You;ll be good at this :o) Pesky (talkstalk!) 07:52, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Article Edit Review?

Hello. I'm wondering if you could help me? I'm new to Wikipedia and I'm participating in the wikipedia partnership with my university, the University of Toronto. I'm a Master's of Information student (hopeful future librarian). I recently added a section to Library on Academic Libraries (under Types 2.3, I think). I was just wondering if you get the chance if you could have a look and make sure I did the edit right and provide some feedback? Thanks so much!
