Equinox Fitness is a luxury fitness company with its national headquarters in New York. Equinox operates three separate fitness brands: Equinox Fitness, PURE Yoga and Blink Fitness. Equinox is a subsidiary of The Related Companies, one of the largest real estate development and property management companies in the United States. The Related Companies is most known for its development of the Time Warner Center in New York City. .[2]

History

Equinox opened its first location at 76th and Amsterdam Avenue on September 23, 1991: the Autumnal Equinox. Since then the company has continued to open several new locations each year. In 2006, The Related Group purchased the company from North Castle Partners And JW Childs Associates, who purchased it from its original owner, The Erricos. In 2008, Equinox brought PURE Yoga to The United States from Asia, in cooperation with PURE International.

Equinox is currently working on expanding into Europe. Unconfirmed Reports indicate that the company will introduce itself into the UK in the next 2–3 years.

In January 2008 the "What's Your After?" advertising campaign, shot by fashion photographer Ellen von Unwerth, was launched appearing in Vanity Fair, US Weekly, the New York Post, and LA Times.
