1800s

Like most plantations in the Confederate States of America during the Civil War, Clifton caught fire and burned. Around the 1840s the first few homes were built. Clifton was near the Battle of Manassas and during that specific time was known as Devereux Station. After the Civil War, in 1868, Devereux Station, Virginia became known has Clifton Station. The next year, in 1869, a post office was set up in the town in what originally was a junction and a railroad. Then during the 1880s and 1890s about 15 homes were set up in the town.

In the 1980's and 1990's, the areas around the Town of Clifton grew quickly, with many affluent families moving into the area. To finish the main town off, the Clifton Creek House (also known as the Watts House) was renovated in 1993.
