kickboxing champion
I see this mentioned a lot but I've never seen his kickboxing record, what organization considers him their champion, I haven't even seen him say he's a kickboxing champion and the article and all MMA websites I've seen have no citations. There's a thread on the Sherdog forums saying he didn't even start kickboxing till 3 years ago... any info?

Additionally, the statement that Santos is the "future of the sport" is purely subjective speculation - nor is it a quote from somewhere. It appears to be the personal opinion of whomever edited the article, and as such does not belong in a wikipedia entry. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.236.21.165 (talk) 10:36, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
I think the info about kickboxing should be removed, as there is no source about it. I've found some list of Brazilian Kickboxing champion, and there is no mention of Junior dos Santos Almeida. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.229.183.149 (talk) 06:54, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
His style and issue about his kickboxing record
He is kickboxing champion in amateur. So thats why it's hard to find. But his main style is boxing. And please don't change his style or don't add there other martial arts.Check his website. You will see the information..It says boxing and brazilian jijitsu. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.180.72.21 (talk) 19:21, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
Mirko Cro Cop Broken Orbital Bone
I removed all reference to this. No source was cited and I couldn't find anything anywhere stating that Cro Cop had suffered a broken orbital bone after his fight with JDS. I call BS. It's not even listed on Cro Cop's wiki page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.14.68.250 (talk) 04:41, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
Cigano = Gypsy? Huh?
I think there is some brazilian portuguese subtly being missed here. I recall JDS himself saying his nickname meant "cigar" on one of the UFC pre-fight promos they always do. He got it because his body at the time was long and thin, like a cigar. That's what was said in the cideo anyway.Whatzinaname (talk) 09:55, 10 July 2010 (UTC)
- In an interview JDS explained there was a movie out that had a character named Cigano in it because JDS looked like the actor portraying this character people at the gym he trained in began calling him Cigano. When translated into english Cigano means gypsy. Apparently he had long hair at the time of getting the nickname. Can't recall what video it was but the interview is on youtube. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.134.172.63 (talk) 13:02, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
- Written interview is here: http://www.mmamania.com/2010/3/20/1382480/gypsy-warrior-mmamania-com-ufc-on —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.134.172.63 (talk) 21:47, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
- Then why keep taking off the ("Gypsy") part that people put next to his nickname? I'm Brazilian, I watched the soup opera that the nickname came from, there was a guy that was called "Cigano" there. "Cigano" means gypsy. There's no confusion. It's simple. We should let the English translation to his nickname ride beside it. I added it, but someone took it off. Don't know why. Maybe you guys can explain it. Weight
What's with the weight of Junior that's put in the notes of every UFC fight? It's irrelevant unless he didn't make weight or if he changes weight classes. If others agree I'd like it to be deleted. Haywire1986 (talk) 14:52, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Capital "dos" (when starting a sentence)
I assume the form "Junior dos Santos" is correct (small d in "dos"). What's the deal with "dos Santos" though? The article uses dos Santos several times (omitting Junior) and it's always written with a small d. Shouldn't it be capitalised normally when it starts a sentence in English text? "dos Santos turned professional" vs "Dos Santos turned professional". I was going to fix this but started thinking it might be a convention thing when writing Portuguese names.
It's a name. Can't just start capitalising it when the actual name isn't capitalised. Paralympiakos (talk) 09:19, 9 September 2010 (UTC)
- I seem to be a bit late to the party, but don't sentence rules override names? Thus sentenced should start "Dos Santos". --Tuoppi gm (talk) 00:45, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
- Tuoppi is absolutely correct. The D must be capitalized at the start of a sentence. There is thorough discussion of this on the bell hooks talk page. Machine Man (talk) 15:33, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
Both are incorrect. In Portuguese the "dos" (that means "of" or "from") it's not part of the name, it's just a linking particle. His surname is "Santos", not "Dos Santos" (and "dos" is NEVER written capitalized). It's seems people at FOX are too lazy to check a basic Portuguese grammar book to check that, so now we have all the American media talking about Mr. "Dos Santos". For a brazilian this sounds absurdly stupid. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.80.62.37 (talk) 10:30, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

Why is Roy Nelson not included on the Fights record? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.239.112.145 (talk) 02:43, 12 November 2010 (UTC)
