:Oops, I should have explained this process. Please do not move pages by cutting and pasting the text. There's a "move" button at the top of each page that can usually be used to change the name of the page. The reason to do this rather than cut-and-pasting is that it preserves the edit history of the page and any discussion. This is considered the best process on Wikipedia. I'll fix it. I moved the article to Piston (optics) not Piston (Optics), because Wikipedia's standard style is that page titles are in lower case except for the first letter (unless the title is a proper name, etc.) I'll fix this and make all the links work.--Srleffler 05:49, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

:Glad to help. Regarding equation formatting, I take it you haven't used LaTeX before? It's a pretty common mathematics processing "language" in the scientific community. The equation formatting for Wiki is a subset of LaTeX. It's not so hard to learn. The instructions are at Help:Formula. One can also construct equations out of standard HTML text and special characters, as you have done. LaTeX is usually preferred for any non-trivial formula, for various reasons (explained on the help page). The gist of it is that with LaTeX, the structure of the equation is preserved, not just the appearance.--Srleffler 06:27, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

Welcome

Hello, JonesMI, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the Newcomers help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type helpme on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using three tildes, like this: ~~~. Four tildes (~~~~) produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! - Chris Saribay 04:18, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, and welcome! Great work on defocus aberration. There was no need to create a duplicate at defocus, though. Instead, just create a redirect by putting the text "#REDIRECT destination" in the duplicate location (replace destination with the name of the destination page). Many names can redirect to a single article in this way. Any link to a redirected name automatically takes you to the destination article instead, so the link to defocus above will now take you right to defocus aberration. Check out the help pages, shown in Chris Saribay's welcome message above for more information, and feel free to ask for help. If you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page.--Srleffler 05:16, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Piston

Hi. Question for you: I notice that in the new article Piston aberration, you didn't describe piston as an "aberration" in the article. I'm thinking that Piston (optics) might be a better title for the article than Piston aberration. What do you think?--Srleffler 05:13, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Great, that's the convention I'm used to too. I'll rename the article to reflect this.--Srleffler 05:43, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Glad to help. Regarding equation formatting, I take it you haven't used LaTeX before? It's a pretty common mathematics processing "language" in the scientific community.
