Seeman (Template:Lang-ta),is a film director and actor in the Tamil film industry, as well as being a Tamil activist. He is the founder and chairman of the organisation " Naam Thamizhar Iyakkam " which turned a political party as " Naam Tamilar Katchi " in 2010.
Career
Seeman was born in Aranaiyur village near Paramakudi, Ramanathapuram in South Tamil Nadu, India. He took up film direction as a career after being inspired by the films of his mentor, Balu Mahendra and also the work of Bharathiraja. Seeman started his career by directing Panchalankurichi, a village action film starring Prabhu and Madhubala. He collaborated with actor Prabhu again in Iniyavalae, a romantic film also featuring Suvalakshmi, Gouthami and Keerthi Reddy. His third film Veeranadai with Sathyaraj and Kushboo failed at the box office which led him to take a long break from films.
In 2006, he came back with a successful film Thambi with actor Madhavan. The film carried the message that violence does not pay, and is not the answer to the problems of today. Seeman turned actor with the film Pori where he played the role of a Malaysian Business man. The same year he directed the love story Vaazhthugal again with Madhavan and Bhavana, with every single word used in the movie being written in pure Tamil. However the film failed at the box office and since Seeman has only acted in films including critically acclaimed roles in Pallikoodam and Evano Oruvan.
Politics
Seeman campaigned actively against the congress party in the 2011 assembly elections in Tamil Nadu. Cong fared badly in the election and could win only 5 out of the 63 seats it contested. Seeman's active campaigning, oratorical skills and campaign team are attributed as one of the reasons for the rout of Cong-DMK combine in the state elections.[1]
Controversies
Seeman has met with numerous controversies, largely linked to his support of the Tamil Tigers and its leader, Velupillai Prabhakaran. He was detained twice under the National Security Act of India. He was first arrested in February 2010 for his support to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and against Sri Lankan Government for killing innocent Tamils in the midst of the war against LTTE. He was arrested again the same act in July 2010, this time for allegedly making speeches against Sri Lanka and against its Navy which is accused of killing 800 Indian fisherman till date and released for false accusing.[2]
