Asif Ali (Template:Lang-ml; born 4 February 1986) is an Indian film actor who works in Malayalam cinema. He made his debut in 2009 in the acclaimed film Ritu. And has went on to perform in critical and commercial hits such as Apoorvaragam (2010), Traffic (2011), and Salt N' Pepper (2011).

Early life

Asif Ali was born on 4 February 1986 in Ranni. Later his family shifted to Karikkode near Thodupuzha in Idukki District. His father's name is M.P. Shoukath Ali of Maravettikal House and mother's name is Molly. M.P. Shoukath Ali was the former Municipal Chairman of Thodupuzha Municipality. Asif also have a younger brother named Askar Ali. His initial schooling was at De Paul Public School, Thodupuzha and Rajarshi Memorial School, Puthankurishu, Ernakulam. He did his degree in Business Administration from Marian College, Kuttikkanam. One of his album song was "Aadhyamayi.." in Himamazhayil album.[1] While pursuing a degree abroad, he modelled for ads, worked as a video jockey and was selected by Shyamaprasad to play one of the lead roles in his film Ritu.[2] His family members wanted Asif to become an Engineer or business man but he wanted to become a film actor. Only after the release of the movie Ritu did Asif's family realize that he had acted in a film. But now the family members are happy to see him as a leading actor.

Acting career

Asif Ali made debut through Shyamaprasad's musical film Ritu,[3] co-starring Nishan and Rima Kallingal. He was then approached by veteran [Kadha Thudarunnu, starring Jayaram and Mamta Mohandas in the lead roles. This film was a runaway success and completed 75 days all over Kerala. In his third film Apoorvaragam, directed by veteran Sibi Malayil, he again co-acted with Nishan. He has completed M. A. Nishadh's Best Of Luck[4] and debutante Rajesh Kannamkara's Ithu Nammude Katha.[5] Rajesh Pillai's Traffic, written by Sanjay & Bobby, starring Sreenivasan, Kunchacko Boban, Vineeth Sreenivasan and Roma was a big hit. Asif's next movies were Violin directed by Sibi Malayil with Nithya Menon as the heroine of the film was flop and then Salt N' Pepper directed by Aashiq Abu starring Lal, Mythili, Shwetha Menon in which he played one of the main role was also a big hit. Other recent performances include role in Sevenes directed by Joshiy and in Indian Rupee and Doctor Love in which he did the cameo appearance both had not so good run at boxoffice. Asuravithu is the latest film of Asif Ali going to be released soon which he acted as title role.
