Request reason:

I have been on Wikipedia nearly 3 years and have contributed to improving many articles. I have devoted multiple hours of my time to help improve articles on this site. Even though I've been here awhile, I still don't really know my way around the site. I don't understand how it's okay for me to be harassed by another user but I get banned for it when i try to put an end to the argument. I had no idea that making a legal threat was against the rules. In all the time I've been on here, I have never experienced such a problem, I minded my own business. The user i made the threat against is obviously mad that I corrected him. Once again, a problem I have never had before. I had a good reputation on here now its ruined because of someone else. I do understand what I was blocked for and I understand it was wrong and it won't happen again, I just got angry. I will read and follow all rules if you will please unban my account. I apologize for making a threat and won't do so again.

Decline reason:

You were blocked because you accused another editor of vandalism for making a good faith edit. Then when the editor asked you to assume good faith, you accused them of harassment. You added a legal threat onto that. In your unblock statement, you continue to claim you are being harassed. It does not appear you are ready to assume good faith of other editors and edit in a collaborative atmosphere without accusing other editors of vandalism when you disagree with them. v/r - TP 19:08, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

Since I'm the blocking admin, I won't handle this myself, but I want to make sure you understand why WP:NLT is a bright-line rule. You're hardly the first editor who's lost it for a moment and said something like that, but I (and whoever the reviewing admin is) want to be sure you truly understand the problem. In the future, if you feel like you're being harassed by another editor it will greatly help you to step back and seriously consider whether it's really harassment (I happen to agree with TParis above me), and above all keep your temper under control (I know how hard it can be, I had the pleasure of dealing with socks of Tobias Conradi); people will generally be more willing to help if you do. Unfortunately, it wasn't "spur of the moment". FPGT24 actually went back and edited a previous post, adding the WP:NLT violation - thus showing premediation. This was a particularly chilling threat, meant to scare the crap out of another editor (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 19:34, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

Isn't an indefinite a little too long though? The user will probably just make another account again (assuming this isn't the first, since he claims to be an experienced editor with 11 months and 148 edits...) He just needs to demonstrate that he understands that making such threats is never okay, and calling someone's behavior "harassment" just because he doesn't like what the other is saying -- is not okay either. (Mmyers was never harassing anyone, just following the standard discussion procedures here.) — Jeraphine Gryphon ^(talk) 20:08, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

See WP:NLT; he has to stay blocked until he clearly, unambiguously retracts the legal threat, and as the blocking admin I wouldn't consent to an unblock until he demonstrates a thorough understanding of why what he did was so problematic.
