Altaria
Altaria

Altaria (Chirutarisu) is a Dragon/Flying type Pokémon, available in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. It vaguely resembles an aquatic waterfowl of some sort, most likely a goose. It can be evolved from Swablu (Chirutto) or caught in the fifth floor of Sky Pillar.

According to the Pokédex, "Altaria sings in a gorgeous soprano. Its wings are like cotton clouds. This Pokémon catches updrafts with its buoyant wings and soars way up into the wild blue yonder."

Winona, the leader of Fortree Gym, uses a Level 33 female Altaria that knows the moves Aerial Ace, Dragonbreath, Dragon Dance, and Earthquake. Altaria is also trained by Bird Keepers and Dragon Trainers, as well as the Elite Four challenger Drake. It can learn any move that Swablu can, as well as Dragonbreath and Dragon Dance.

Name Origin

There is no clear name origin for Altaria. However, it may be derived from the word altitude.

In the anime

Altaria appears in a not-yet-translated-into-English episode.

In this episode (called "Sky of Swablu! Spirit of May!" in Japanese) May takes care of an injured Swablu until it returns to full health and can fly again. Several Altaria appear at the beginning when it is shown how the Swablu was injured.
