Blue, green, yellow, and red plastic balls in the shape of a square are scattered around the floor like pins, and players each choose a shovel that corresponds to the ball color they will attempt to collect. Once Mr. Bucket is turned on, players scoop up the balls that match their shovel and drop them into the top of Mr. Bucket. While players are collecting, Mr. Bucket will spit the balls that have been placed inside him out of his mouth at regular intervals. The winner is the first player with all three of their balls in Mr. Bucket at the same time. <ref>{{cite web |url=http://www.hasbro.com/common/instruct/Mr.Bucket.pdf |title=Instructions MrBucket Game}}</ref>
