Christie Monteiro is a character in the Tekken series. She is the granddaugher of Eddy Gordo's master and his suggested romantic interest. She has replaced Eddy as the prominently-featured capoeira user in the Tekken series.
Story
In Tekken 4, Christie was the pupil of Eddy Gordo and entered the fourth Tournament to search for him after a strange dissapearence. In Tekken 5, she wishes to use the Mishima Zaibatsu's cutting-edge technology to save her grandfather.
Popularity
For obvious reasons, Christie has quite a substantial fanbase. Some fans consider her to be an excellent addition to the cast, adding sex appeal to the series as well as light-heartedness to a largely-somber cast.
Criticisms
However, this is also a major criticism of the character. Christie's scarce clothing and flirtatious style give many the impression that Christie was added merely as fan service. At the same time, Christie's minimal part in the story (which, to date, has only consisted of searching for Eddy and trying to save her grandfather) does not interest many fans, especially when it's considered that Eddy's story of revenge against Kazuya was interrupted by Christie's introduction.
A further criticism is inherited from Eddy directly--many fans despise Tekken's interpretation of capoeira, as used by both Eddy and Christie. A common complaint is that it rewards button mashing players too richly. Regardless, most expert-level players do not regard the characters as cheap.
In addition to this, when Christie made her debut in Tekken 4, she had not inherited Eddy's moves, rather a dumbed-down, less effective version of them. Many moves that were highly effective with Eddy are now slower or less powerful.
