Mohammed Abdul-Hamid al-Awwad was a Syrian Brigadier General who was reported to have been "assassinated" in Damascus during the 2011-2012 Syrian uprising.[1] The offical Syrian government news acency, SANA, claimed that the General was targeted by armed men, who killed him and wounded his driver.[2][3]

Assassination

The General's car was allegedly ambushed when he was heading to the unit he commanded in the eastern Al-Ghouta area of Damascus. The driver issued a statement, claiming that a taxi had overtook their car, and four gunmen had shot al-Awwad in the head, whilst wounding him.[4] SANA also reported that al-Awwad was from the Damascus countryside.[5]
