Lazona Kawasaki Plaza (ラゾーナ川崎プラザ, Razōna Kawasaki puraza) is a shopping mall in Saiwai-ku, Kawasaki, Kanagawa, Japan. The mall adjoins the west side Kawasaki Station.
The project designed by Ricardo Bofill in association with Yamashita Sekkei for Mitsui & Toshiba was inaugurated in September 2006.
The building consists of a building articulated around a semicircular plaza that acts as the pole of attraction for the inhabitants of the area (10 million people). The 4-storey building includes offices, a museum, a cultural centre, department stores, shops and cinemas. There is a supermarket at the first underground level. The parking is located at the second underground level. A semicircular exterior plaza becomes the pivotal space of junction.
Visitors have direct acces to the mall through the metro station. La Zona gathers more than half a million visitors per day.
Structure
The roof was designed by Ricardo Bofill, and makes use of natural lighting.[1]
History
Between 1908 and 2000, the lot was occupied by a Toshiba factory.[2] Construction of Lazona began in 2001. The mall opened on 28 September 2006.
