Sunland Park is a city in Doña Ana County, New Mexico, United States. The population was 14,106 at the 2010 census. Though it lies directly across from El Paso, Texas, being in Doña Ana County makes it instead a part of the Las Cruces Metropolitan Statistical Area, some 30 miles to the north.
The city is at the foot of Mount Cristo Rey, next to the Rio Grande, and is named for Sunland Park Racetrack & Casino. The location was formerly called Anapra, New Mexico. The city is along the United States-Mexico border and is bordered to the south by Puerto de Anapra, Chihuahua, Mexico.
Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 10.8 square miles (28.0 km²), of which, 10.6 square miles (27.4 km²) of it is land and 0.2 square miles (0.6 km²) of it (2.31%) is water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 13,309 people, 3,355 households, and 2,969 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,260.6 people per square mile (486.6/km²). There were 3,617 housing units at an average density of 342.6 per square mile (132.2/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 69.80% White, 0.53% African American, 0.81% Native American, 0.07% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 26.02% from other races, and 2.76% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 96.44% of the population.
There were 3,355 households out of which 55.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.0% were married couples living together, 20.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 11.5% were non-families. 9.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 3.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.95 and the average family size was 4.24.
In the city the population was spread out with 37.5% under the age of 18, 11.9% from 18 to 24, 26.5% from 25 to 44, 16.6% from 45 to 64, and 7.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 25 years. For every 100 females there were 93.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.4 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $20,164, and the median income for a family was $21,255. Males had a median income of $17,838 versus $15,129 for females. The per capita income for the city was $6,576. About 36.3% of families and 39.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 46.2% of those under age 18 and 34.6% of those age 65 or over.
