Many "Russian" superheroes in Western comics hail from the Russian Federation, and the Commonwealth of Independent States. Others have origins dating back to the Cold War and the Soviet Union.
When it comes to fiction actually composed and written under Communism, a broader stroke may have to be taken when defining heroes and superheroes than is common in the west.
