London Buses route 226 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, United Kingdom. The service is currently contracted to First Centrewest.
History
When the 226 began in the early 1950s it was very different from the way it is today. It was a very short route, running from Golders Green to Cricklewood Ash Grove pretty much via its present route.[1] in 1953, it was extended to Willesden Junction and Park Royal Stadium (Monday - Saturdays peak hours), via Willesden and Harlesden. The Willesden Junction & Harlesden Jubilee Clock section was discontinued in 1971.[1]
The Route was extended to Burnt Oak in 1984 via Alperton, Wembley, North Wembley, Preston Manor, Kingsbury, Colindale and Grahame Park.[1]
The Burnt Oak and Park Royal section was withdrawn in 1990,and replaced by new routes 224 (between Park Royal & North Wembley) and 204 (between Wembley and Burnt Oak).[1]
It extended again in 1992, to Alperton (Sunday evenings) and Wembley Brent Town Hall (Sundays except evenings). This was extension was withdrawn in 1995.[1]
In 2001, Dennis Dart SLF 10.2m / Marshall Capital (DMLs) were introduced to convert it low floor.[1]
In 2004, the route was extended in the Park Royal area from Asda to First Central Business Park and the allocation was transferred to Willesden Junction.[1]
When fellow First London route PR1 was withdrawn in March 2007, the 226 replaced it between Park Royal and Ealing Broadway and route PR2 replaced the other half between Willesden Junction & Park Royal.[1]
In 2008, First London retained the contract of route 226 and Alexander Dennis Enviro200 Dart (DMLs) where introduced to replace the Dennis Dart SLF / Marshall Capital (DMLs).[1]
In 2012, First London ordered a new Wright StreetLite demonstrator to be trialled on route 226. This bus is currently in Service.
