Vratna Gates

Prepast of Vratna river (Serbian Cyrillic:Прерасти реке Вратне,or Vratna Gates (Serbian Cyrillic:Вратњанске капије)) In the gorge of Vratna river there are three natural stone bridges, two very near the Vratna monastery and third farther away into the depths of the gorge. They are entered through marked hiking trails, witch was through monastic property, but nowdays trail go around monastic land and leads beneath first Vratna Gate or Little Prerast.

Little Prerast is about 200m upstream from monastery and her length is 15m. Width of opening is 33m, height 34m, while the thickness of the arch above the opening is 10 meters.

Big Prerast is about one hundred meters from the Little Prerast and her lenght is 45m. Width of her opening is 23m, height 26m, thickness of the arch above the opening 30m.

Suva Prerast (Suva means Dry in Serbian) is 2 km upstream from the other two Gates and her length is 34m, width of opening is 15m, height 20m, thickness of the arch above the opening 10m. Its name comes from the fact that Vratna, in the summer period, plunges fifty meters upstream from it, but later appeared and disappeared again, before once again breaks out from the rock, and continue to run on the surface.

The Prerasts of Vratna are of different origin, while the first two are remains of the former cave tunnel through witch river Vratna ran through, and part of the arch between them collapsed, the third resulted from the plunging of the river. In its vicinity was discovered examples of karst terrain, three unexplored caves, one of which is the longest, the second is rich in tunnels and corridors, and in the third has a small lake.
