Bolivar is a railway station in South Australia with originally little more than a crossing loop for passing trains going in opposite directions.
At the time of the naming of the location, the vicinity was open farmland, and the nearest named locality was Bolivar, South Australia. That portion of the railway line is now surrounded by RAAF Base Edinburgh to the north of the line, and the Adelaide northern suburbs of Paralowie, Burton, Direk, Waterloo Corner, Salisbury North and Salisbury Downs to the south of the line.
When the loops on the line were increased to around 1800m in the 1980s, the Bolivar loop was only lengthened to 1230m because of level crossings at either end.
In the 2010s, Specialized Container Transport (SCT) and another company started to develop an intermodal hub, and the loops needed to be lengthened, thus requiring one of the level crossing loops to be replaced by an overbridge. These changes are yet to occur.
There is no local passenger train service on this line, and long distance passenger trains do not stop.
ARTC has a file dated 2004 with a diagram of Bolivar loop.[1]
