Michael, now age 18, informs his mother that he has been accepted to a summer architecture program, in Rome, Italy. Becca, who now lives an ordinary life running a florist shop, is hesitant to let him go, but consents. After not hearing from him for over week and receiving a call informing her that Michael has moved out of his dorm room, Becca travels to Rome to track down her son, and finds herself in the middle of an international conspiracy involving the CIA and an Interpol agent who was once her lover.

Paul Winstone (Sean Bean) is car-bombed in Europe. Ten years later, son Michael Winstone has gone to Europe for an architecture program. When she doesn't hear from her son for over a week, Rebecca Winstone goes to Europe. There's an intruder in her son's dormitory room. After she kills one foreign spy, the CIA becomes alert to her activities. Recognizing an Italian street in one of her son's cellphone photos, she breaks into a jewelry store, to view the store's video surveillance records of that street. Her old spy sources trace the tag number of a truck in the security footage, to a warehouse in France. The CIA intercepts her on the train to France. She is questioned by CIA agent Dax Miller, a CIA supervisor. CIA headquarters orders him to send her back to the United States. However, he gives her three hours to uncover information. She breaks into the French warehouse, where she sees photos of her family; the photos reveal that her son has been tracked for years. She sees a code, written in chalk; A sign that Michael was there. An armed guard spots her; She fends him off. She makes an telephone transmission to Agent Miller's CIA offices; A CIA team is dispatched to the warehouse. A mysterious hard disk is mentioned which contains proof of corruption charges against Lussier. Rebecca makes a deal that if French intelligence can find Michael, she will surrender the hard drive, which is actually the nickname for a man (Lothaire Bluteau), who worked for Lussier 12 years earlier and has autobiographical memory. After nearly falling into a trap to capture them both, Rebecca and Hard Drive hack into Lussier's computer which reveals that Lussier authorized an emergency flight which is about to leave in 20 minutes. Rebecca leaves the office to find Michael before his kidnappers can take him out of France, as Hard Drive uploads all files from Lussier's computer to the internet, exposing his corruption. On the docks, she telephones Sloan, AKA the "Ice Princess." Rebecca demands an immediate meeting on the bay, in one hour. Sloane has kidnapped Mary to use as a pawn against Becca, but Mary escapes from Sloane's speedboat. Sloane reluctantly puts down her gun, as Becca threatens to drop the diamonds in the bay. Martin Newman (Keith Carradine) was the CIA agent who trained Rebecca Winstone, and was lead investigator into Paul Winstone's death. Newman, Miller, and Mrs. Winstone travel back to Europe; a tattooed man who is spotted in the Hotel surveillance video, when Michael saw his fathers murder, is also spotted in an old Winstone family photo. They identify the tattooed man as an ex-Mossad agent turned assassin. Agent Miller is told by CIA headquarters to shut down the search. Newman convinces Agent Miller to defy those orders, and search for Michael. Rebecca Winstone doesn't want to believe it, when Newman tells her that Paul Winstone was suspected of being corrupt and a traitor. Rebecca is on a foot chase, going after a suspect who has just killed the tattooed assassin. When she has the suspect cornered, she receives a shocking surprise. The suspect is her husband Paul Winstone. With nowhere to run, he climbs over the tall seawall, and jumps into the ocean. Michael does some snooping around the mansion, and the snarly, silent henchman locks Michael in his room. Later, a bloodied Oksana is thrown into Michael's room. She obviously has taken punishment for his hijinks, but she admits that for some still unknown reason, they will not hurt Michael. When news of Paul Winstone's reappearance reaches the CIA, they tell Dax Miller to continue the mission. Rebecca thinks Michael is being held captive by Paul.
