How We Do was released as the lead single from her debut album in the US. The song was produced by The Runners[1] and written by Berry Gordy, Jr., Victor Alexander and Jermaine Jackson. The song borrows its refrain from Biggie's 1993 single "Party and Bullshit". Ora described the song by saying it covers the feeling when you "wake up in the morning and want to take another whisky shot."[2]

The song was initially planned to be titled "Party and Bullshit" but American radio stations wouldn't allow the name because of the language to Ora changed it to "How We Do (Party)".[3] On February 24, 2012, Ora visited New York's Z100 radio station alongside her Roc Nation label boss Jay-Z, to premiere "How We Do (Party)".[4] "We went in there, it wasn't even planned it was just a meeting and the z100 thing just happened. He heard the track and he was like we aren't waiting for this get up right now, we took a shot of tequila at 2pm we went in and played it on the radio."[5] "The heard it and wanted to play it straight away. I couldn't believe it, I was like are you serious and they just played it right there and then. It was one of those moments where I tried not to cry i wanted to burst out in tears, it was a moment for me".[6]

MTV said that the composition of How We Do was, " sugary sweet pop record kind of reminds us a bit Jessie J's "Domino" and Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream", but mixed with some dope"[7]

Critical Reception

Djbooth.net said "The Runners juxtaposing a pop-rock guitar with bass-booming reverb-drenched percussion as the singer/songwriter encourages listeners to let go of their cares and paint the town red. An eminently catchy ode to revelry and young love".[1] MTV described the song as "a power-pop punch of guitar strumming goodness".[8] Idolator.com gave the song a mixed review saying "[How We Do (Party)] is much less Rihanna-esque [than 'R.I.P.'], so there's hope. (…) She sounds a mix of Jessie J and Karmin here."[9]
