"The Eds are Coming, the Eds are Coming" is the fourth and final special episode of the animated comedy series Ed, Edd n Eddy. It originally aired on Cartoon Network in the United States on May 11, 2007 as part of the Cartoon Network Invaded mini-series. The episode was directed by Danny Antonucci and written by Antonucci and Jono Howard. The score was composed by Patric Caird, who went on to compose all the series' scores. In the episode, the Eds try to hunt down the "serial toucher" who's been stealing the Cul-de-Sac children's belongings.

Plot

The episode opens with Eddy and Edd visiting Edd's house. While there, Edd notices that his magnifying glass is missing, causing him to spiral into a nervous breakdown. Eddy manages to snap Edd out of it by slamming his bed onto his head. The two then go to Eds house. Not long after they arrive, Ed's younger sister Sarah comes barging in his room accusing him of stealing her doll, known as "Polly Poo Poo." After realizing that two items have disappeared within a short amount of time, Eddy jumps to a conclusion that there is a "serial toucher" on the loose in the Cul-de-Sac, and the Eds spread the word to the other Cul-de-Sac children, who offer the Eds to receive money if they catch the thief.

The three form a plan to catch the serial toucher, which consists of Ed sitting alone on a bench in the playground with a "Don't Touch!" sign around his neck, and whoever touches Ed is presumably the thief. Jonny ends up falling for the trap after he lets Plank, his imaginary friend, a board of wood, feel Ed's haircut. The Eds jump out of the back of the bush and accuse Jonny of being the serial toucher. Though he tries to escape, the Eds capture him. Inside Edd's Garage, Eddy starts interrogating Jonny and Plank, tied to chairs, over the missing belongings of the children. However, both of them give the Eds no answer. With a water pistol, Eddy then uses chinese water torture on Plank. The sound of the dripping water makes Jonny want to use the bathroom. Eventually, Jonny can't stand it anymore, and falsely confesses to the crime, being the only way the Eds would let him use the bathroom. The Eds then collect their money and punish Jonny by trapping him in a tire.

While walking towards the candy story, Sarah stops them and claims she found her dolly under her bed, with Jimmy showing the Eds the doll. Edd reveals he also recently found his magnifying glass, proving that there was no serial toucher and that Jonny is innocent. However, they still decide to spend the money on jawbreakers without setting Jonny free or giving a refund. Sarah gets revenge by rolling the tire in which Jonny is trapped in down a hill towards the Eds at the candy store, where the tire hits all three Eds. The jawbreakers fly out of their mouths and roll down the street. The episode ends with the Eds chasing their jawbreakers into the sunset.

Production

The episode was directed by series' creator Danny Antonucci.[1] Antonucci was also one of two writers of the episode, the other one being Jono Howard.[2] The score was composed by Patric Caird,[3] who went on to compose the music for the rest of the series, even winning the award for Best Score in an Animation Program or Series at the 2005 Leo Awards.[4] Though originally planned to air in November 1998, it aired on January 4, 1999,[5] along with the second episode, "Nagged to Ed,"[6] due to minor post-production delays.[5]

Reception

The episode is the The Complete First Season Ed, Edd n Eddy DVD, released on October 10, 2006,[7] which can be purchased on Amazon.com and the Cartoon Network Shop.[7][8] It is also available for purchase on the iTunes Store;[6] It can be bought as seperatly, or as a part of season 1.[6]
