To whom it may concern: The Singles table shows "Wasted Years" as charting #35 on the Billboard Hot 100. I am holding a copy of the 8th edition of *The Billboard Book of Top-40 Hits* (2004) and there's no Iron Maiden listed at all. Live!! Plus One

Is this an album or an EP? It's listed under both IainP (talk) 13:35, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

It could be considered as both. The Japanese version was a 4-track EP; the Greek version was a 9-track album. However, most Iron Maiden fans regard it as an EP i.e. it's rarely listed along with their other full-length albums. More information here. Paul Armstrong 06:25, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

Country codes

There's some confusion about the use of country codes. I propose that we follow the three-letter country code ISO standard. It's widely accepted and people can easely refer to it if they're not sure about one code (link: ISO 3166-1 alpha-3)

I've changed the CHI into CHE, since I first used the CH which is the two-letter code for Switzerland.

I'm also the one who added the Soundscan data. As soon as I get current data, I will update the entries.

Live After Death DVD

I dont think it's neccesarily appropriate to only include the album sales for the U.S. A worldwide sales figure would be more to the point as Maiden are a band with international popularity and the U.S have never embraced the band to the extent other countries have —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.44.212.233 (talk) 01:30, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Sales numbers too high

Some of the (US) album sales numbers on here are too high. I'll list what I found:

1. Number of the Beast:
RIAA: Platinum
Wiki: Over 2 million

2. Powerslave:
RIAA: Platinum
Wiki: Over 2 million

3. Somewhere in Time:
RIAA: Platinum
Wiki: Over 2 million

4. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son:
RIAA: Gold
Wiki: Over a million

5. Fear of the Dark:
RIAA: No certification
Wiki: Over 500,000

6. Live after Death:
RIAA: Platinum
Wiki: Over 2 million

Either Wiki is wrong or it's the RIAA. Somehow, I trust the RIAA more.

That doesn't mean Wiki should put up wrong sales numbers. And I wouldn't be too sure about total sales exceeding 100 million. It was 70 million for a long time and the given sources aren't always that reliable. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.177.227.94 (talk) 11:19, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

I can't understand why some of us feel unconfortable with sales result of 100 mln copies of albums world wide. According to Maidens global label, mighty EMI RECORDS, backcatalogue of theirs original recordings and some of current releases has trespassed the treshold of 70 mln with the end of 2007. Quoting the official statement - many diffrent cases or ocassions on Band's official site is always citin' the sales figures from this one source. So same for bands like Queen or Depeche Mode. Some results for their market positions are reflecting only the official state of EMI channel of distribution at this moment, nothing more. Maidens since 20 years have been distributing by some labels independent from EMI policy - CBS, EPIC, CMC, Sactuary or even Metal-IS! Total number of sales for LP phisical discs pictures summaric results of market demand for ALL of these record manufactures. So same with AC/DC, For Warner Bros - 155 mln. But Plus Sony equals 200 mln and still counting these days!

That's truth but it's not uncomfortable for the "maidenmaniax", but fans of Metallica as "one metal band on Earth ever with 100 mln album sales". Not exactly: current sales status for Maiden, often cited ever on Official Website - are commpilled according to EMI catalogue figures. Iron Maiden released 31 album of total catalogue, for 6 independent label - paths, and sold them in total numbuer of almost 110 - 116 mln. So same seems to happen with US sales. RIAA has given results only for prime Capitol distribution, not pointing at re-masters sales for other labels (CMC, SONY, CBS, UMe and Sanctuary). In fact, total sales of albums under different labels reached the figure of more than 2 mln. Read the Official Bios - "Somewhere In Time" reached Double Platinum in few first years after it's release (1989) - but RIAA doesn't says nothing at all about... Band's got the official "2XPlatinum Certificate Boards" on their walls - some misunderstainding to me.

Maiden sold about 15 mln albums in Latin America - circa 20 mln on the area of States, 7 mln - rest of world, and between 50 - 60 mln on the Old Continent (Europe + UK). We shall count the every kind of formats, phisical or not. 31 albums worldwide (full catalogue offer) and over 100 mln summary sales - with near 90 mln for EMI Rec. Album Sales in the U.S

I have discovered Somewhere back in time did sell over 2 million in the U.S sourced by the book 30 years of the beast and the bonus material on the reissued CD. IRON MAIDEN FLIGHT 666

Before some days iron maiden(in their site) published an article saying that iron maiden flight 666 is number 1 in charts of more than 20 countries(including USA and UK) but here in the article about iron maiden's discography is the old diagram which claims that this rockumentary hasn't charted in most countries! when will be changed? Mainstream Rock Tracks positions

The singles table doesn't have a column for said chart, but Allmusic said they have placed on it 6 times. And I know before the redesign, Billboard.com had positions for 2 Minutes to Midnight and The Wicker Man. Is it OK to add the column using the page I linked as the source? Number of the Beast Charting Position Fix

Hello all, I have fixed the US Billboard 200 chart position for NotB. I have changed it from #33 to nothing. I am not sure who added it, but here is the information that was there. Note that it used an AllMusic band page as a ref (one that doesnt even mention NotB charting):

I'm one of the biggest Maiden fans around, but honestly, if they didn't chart with this album, they didn't chart. I'm also guessing (see first entry above) whoever added it made a mistake in naming it too? AllMusic isn't Billboard 200... not sure why they named an AllMusic list as Billboard 200. The Final Frontier UK Gold Certification

Hello, I just wanted to create a section about this issue as a record, to justify maintaining the Gold record status and, if necessary, a place for further discussion. Here is a summary of the issue- in the past year a Gold UK certification for The Final Frontier has been continually added and removed as there is no record of it in the BPI database. On 30 December 2011, an IP user re-added the Gold UK certification except this time referencing a charity auction on Iron Maiden's website in which the band's manager, Rod Smallwood, posted his Gold UK award for The Final Frontier. From this evidence it became clear that the album has gone Gold but hasn't been documented in the BPI database, after which I began sending emails to the BPI to find out what the issue was. Today (16 January 2012) I received a response, which I have posted below (with the names deleted):

Dear ********

Thank you for your email. In answer to your query, BPI is permitted to record certifications only when the record company notifies us of the award. In this particular case we have not received a notification from the record company but it doesn’t necessarily mean the sales have not been achieved, merely that the certification has not been claimed.

Please also note that the BPI certification is only available to BPI’s member companies. Many record labels do not belong to BPI so we are not the ultimate source of certification information. If you have a particular query you would be best advised to contact the record company who released the record.

Overall then, what must have happened is that EMI haven't submitted notification to the BPI for their records and the Gold certification stands. I know citing a primary source is not ideal (see WP:ABOUTSELF and WP:SELFPUBLISH) but I do think an exception should be made in this regard as I doubt the band's manager would auction something that isn't the general article. In any case, I haven't been able to find a secondary source as an alternative, but if one is found I would recommend that it is added.
