Participation: Out of 49 people signed up for this drive so far, 26 have copy-edited at least one article. It's a smaller group than last drive, but we're making good progress. If you've signed up but haven't yet copy-edited any articles, please consider doing so. Every bit helps! If you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late. Join us!

Progress report: We're on track to meet our targets for the drive, largely due to the efforts of Lfstevens and the others on the leaderboard. Thanks to all. We have reduced our target group of articles—January, February, and March 2011—by over half, and it looks like we will achieve that goal. Good progress is being made on the overall backlog as well, with over 500 articles copy-edited during the drive so far. The total backlog currently sits at around 3200 articles.

Hall of Fame: GOCE coordinator Diannaa was awarded a spot in the GOCE Hall of Fame this month! She has copy-edited over 1567 articles during these drives, and surpassed the 1,000,000-word mark on May 5. Woodrow Wilson

A user in IRC (I didn't find out their username) asked about the protection on Woodrow Wilson; you applied the protection, and I notice that it is going to expire in another few weeks; perhaps you could consider lifting the protection sooner.  Chzz  ►  09:12, 9 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Reason for deleting talk page

G'day JamieS93, you deleted the talk page for India Service Medal per 09:21, 19 May 2010 JamieS93 deleted "Talk:India Service Medal" ‎ (G7: One author who has requested deletion or blanked the page). It is standard for medal pages to have a talk page, at the very least tagged with the WP:ODM Banner. I am curious as to who requested the deletion, why they requested it and what was on the talk page prior to its deletion. Can you assist? In the meantime, I am re-raising it with the WP:ODM Banner, per WP:ODM policy. Cheers, AusTerrapin (talk) 03:01, 18 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It was a bot, User:WildBot, who created the page and then removed its own content and requested deletion. The only content of the talk page prior to deletion was WildBot complaining about the presence of an ambiguous link to Defence Medal on the article page. Soap 09:16, 18 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That clears that up. Thanks. AusTerrapin (talk) 15:04, 18 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Christain chart to use

Remember how we discussed it early this year. A discussion has formed at WikiProject Christian music and it can be found here. Royalbroil 01:21, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there Royal. =) Thanks, but I'm really not on Wikipedia anymore, so I'm probably not gonna get involved in the discussion. But primarily using Nielsen sounds like a good idea to me. They've always been pretty reasonable. Hey, I hope you've been doing well! Take care, JamieS93 01:34, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Globus family of brands and Avalon Waterways articles

Hi JamieS93- About a month ago, I created an Avalon Waterways article (on the heels of the company being national recognized by Travel + Leisure readers) and used several sources to back-up any/all information and claims. Over the last month, the piece was edited by a handful of users. Yesterday, I created a Globus family of brands page and again, used several sources to back-up any/all information and claims. Overnight, both articles were deleted (the Globus family of brands article was first submitted for deletion just minutes after posting it, while I was still in the process of providing sources/edits). I have since reached out to those that deleted the articles and was faced with some pretty harsh criticisms and accusations (including being told I'm "whiney") and have now been placed on the COI discussion board.

While it's true that I have done some communications consulting for both the Globus family of brands and Avalon Waterways (something I never tried to hide and in fact, the opposite - I reviewed the COI rules/suggestions pages), I felt that that made me an "expert" on the brands in providing correct information. And, I also understand the importance of third-party credibility and resources so used impeccable references throughout my article, citing such reputable publications at USA Today, NY Times, Conde Nast Traveler, Travel+Leisure (and more) to back-up any/all claims.

I'm wondering a few things ... 1) Why these articles were deleted despite the amount of credible, third-party resources used to back-up each statement ... 2) Why countless travel brands appear on Wikipedia with less history/heritage and certainly less resources and references and 3) Why I wasn't given the chance - or others on Wikipedia weren't given the opportunity - to edit the articles before they were deleted (even providing a tag).

As a Wikipedia Administrator, I'm looking for some insight ... Because of the way Wikipedia runs, I understand that consistency in articles is a nearly impossible task. That said, I would have appreciated constructive feedback and tags (this article needs more sources or this article appears to be advertising, please help edit it ...) instead of immediate deletion.

Any thoughts to share? Thank you in advance for your time, consideration and feedback. (Melaniegravdal (talk) 21:01, 15 September 2010 (UTC))[reply]

Interview?

Hey JamieS93, My name is Joshua Ogaldez and I am a freelance writer online (feel free to google my name and read some stuff, if you'd like...). I write inspirational content, stuff about Christianity and Contemporary Christian Music. I was interested in interviewing you, not face to face, but maybe through e-mails. I used to be a frequent wikipedia editor for sometime, I haven't recently though. I wanted to see if I could ask you about Contemporary Christian Music, Wikipeidia (how it works and why people should join?), and stuff like "What is an 'administrator' in wikipedia?" My e-mail is the following if you're interested: joshua.ogaldez@live.com. Thanks. Joshua —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.96.91.27 (talk) 20:10, 17 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Adopt-a-user reminder

Hello, I have completed a general cleanup of the adopter information page for the adopt-a-user project, located here. During my cleanup, I have removed several inactive and retired users. In order to provide interested adoptees with an easy location to find adopters, it is essential that the page be up-to-date with the latest information possible. Thus:

 • If you are no longer interested in being an adopter, please remove yourself from the list.
 • If you are still interested, please check the list to see if any information needs to be updated or added - especially your availability. Thank you.
 • You are receiving this message because you are listed as an adopter here.

An update from adopt a user

Hi there JamieS93! You may be wondering, what have I done to sound the alarm this time? Nothing. I'm messaging you in regards to the adopt-a-user program, which currently has a backlog of users wishing to be adopted. This doesn't make much sense, as we have a considerable list of users offer adoption, so there shouldn't be any backlog. I've begun to eliminate this backlog myself through a matching program, but I need your help to make it work. Of course, adoptees and adopters don't have to go through there, but I believe it helps eliminate the backlog because someone is actively matching pairs.

On the list of adopters, I have modified the middle column to say "Interests." It's easier working with other users that have similar interests, so if it's not too much to ask, could you add your interests in the middle column? For example, if I was interested in hurricanes, computers, business, and ... reptiles? I would place those in the middle column. Counter-vandalism and the like can also be included (maintenance should be used as the general term). The more interests, the better, since adoptees can learn more about you and choose the one they feel most comfortable working with. The information about when you're most active and other stuff can go into the "Notes" section to the right.

Finally, I've gone around and asked adoptees (and will in the future) to fill in a short survey so adopters can take the initiative and contact users they feel comfortable working with. We all know that most adoptees just place the adopt me template on their user page and leave it - so it's up to us to approach them and offer adoption. So, please take a look at the survey, adopt those that fit your interests, and maybe watchlist it so you can see the interests of adoptees and adopt one that fits your interests in the future.

Once again, thank you for participating in the adopt-a-user program! If you wish to respond to this post, please message me on my talk page.

Question about WikiProject South Carolina

Greetings, I have been watching WikiProject South Carolina for a while and it doesn't appear to be very active and I had a proposition for the members to consider. I would like to pull WPUS under WikiProject United States to some degree. I am not necessarily talking a full merger unless thats what the members of WPSC want but here is what I mean.

 1. The project would stay the way it is except for a couple things. I would like to replace WikiProject South Carolina with WikiProject United States and add WPSC to the list of Projects supported by WPUS. This would include replacing the WPSC template on the talk pages of the articles with WPUS/South Carolina (if you want to see an examply you camn look at Washington DC).
 2. I would also add it to the list of Projects supported by WPUS on the main WPUS landing page.

This would do a couple things that I think would benefit both projects.

 1. It would increase visibility of South Carolina and related articles to a much larger user base
 2. It would allow WPSC to more easily benefit from the Bots running for WPUS. This includes article alert bot that warns of Articles and Images for deletion or Promotion. This would ensure maximum visibility if an article relating to South Carolina was submitted for deletion or promotion.
 3. It would allow the South Carolina related articles to fall under the WPUS and South Carolina scope.
 4. It would somewhat reduce the maintenance required by consolidating the templates
 5. It would reduce the number of templates visibile on the articles
 6. In addition to the above, I typically cycle through all the articles in the WPUS scope every month or 2 fixing various things (sections, typos, persondata, categories, etc) and this would allow the South Carolina articles to fall under that much more easily.

Please let me know what thoughts or ideas you have about this and if the other members would be receptive to this. I also added a message to the talk page of WikiProject South Carolina. Thanks in advance. --Kumioko (talk) 20:57, 11 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Added template for SuggestBot

Hi,

Thanks for being one of SuggestBot's users! I hope you have found the bot's suggestions useful.

We are in the process of switching from our previous list-based signup process to using templates and userboxes, and I have therefore added the appropriate template to your user talk page. You should receive the first set of suggestions within a day, and since we'll be automating SuggestBot you will from then on continue to receive them regularly at the desired frequency.

We now also have a userbox that you can use to let others know you're using SuggestBot, and if you don't want to clutter your user talk page the bot can post to a sub-page in your userspace. More information about the userbox and usage of the template is available on User:SuggestBot/Getting Recommendations Regularly.

If there are any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me on my user talk page. Thanks again, Nettrom (talk) 00:13, 3 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Fireproof poster.jpg

⚠
Thanks for uploading File:Fireproof poster.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Courcelles 04:32, 10 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the speedy. This image was used in Fireproof (film) at the time of the tagging, but File:Fireproof poster.jpg#File links is empty. I suspect this may be due to this edit and perhaps the cache hasn't been purged. I've notified Courcelles about this anomaly so he will be aware of it in his future taggings. Cunard (talk) 04:49, 10 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Weird- those things are usually real-time. That edit was +14 hours ago, and the bot saw the same thing. The "what links here" button is also showing the image orphaned. Servers are funky today. Courcelles 04:53, 10 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I wonder what's happening with the servers. I have sampled your image taggings and haven't found any other occurrences like this. I think it's best though to hold off on the taggings until the servers are properly working again. Cunard (talk) 05:02, 10 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Project Nanhi Kali

Hi JamieS93, In 2009 you deleted "Project Nanhi Kali" for copyright infringement on the Nanhi Kali website. I wanted to let you know I am creating a new Project Nanhi Kali page today. thanks, Andelaria (talk) 10:41, 18 February 2011 (UTC)Andelaria[reply]

Hi Andelaria. Jamie is inactive at the moment, so I have reviewed the article you created.

Thank you for creating Project Nanhi Kali, an article about a noble organization. The article relied mostly on primary sources (though the Huffington Post, a secondary source, was a good find), so I have added several third-party reliable sources to ensure that the article will not be deleted for being non-notable. I have run the article through User:CorenSearchBot/manual and no copyright violations were found. Your contribution to Wikipedia has added much to Wikipedia's wealth of knowledge! If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Student's Day requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. TiMike (talk) 02:55, 20 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

GOCE drive newsletter

Invitation from the Guild of Copy Editors

The Guild of Copy Editors invites you to participate in their September 2011 Backlog elimination drive, a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy editing backlog. The drive will begin on September 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and will end on September 30 at 23:59 (UTC). We will be tracking the number of 2010 articles in the backlog, as we want to copy edit as many of those as possible. Please consider copy editing an article that was tagged in 2010. Barnstars will be given to anyone who edits more than 4,000 words, with special awards for the top 5 in the categories "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words". See you at the drive! – Your drive coordinators: Diannaa, Chaosdruid, The Utahraptor, Slon02, and SMasters.

GOCE drive newsletter

Invitation from the Guild of Copy Editors

The Guild of Copy Editors invites you to participate in their November 2011 Backlog elimination drive, a month-long effort to reduce the size of the copy edit backlog. The drive begins on November 1 at 00:00 (UTC) and ends on November 30 at 23:59 (UTC). We will be tracking the number of 2010 articles (and specifically will be targeting the oldest three months), as we want to copy edit as many of these as possible. Barnstars will be awarded to anyone who copy edits more than 4,000 words, and special awards will be given to the top 5 in the following categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words". We hope to see you there! – Your drive coordinators: Diannaa, Chaosdruid, The Utahraptor, Slon02, and SMasters.

Please reverse deletion of Ernest Backes page

... Please reverse deletion of Ernest Backes page.

His role in the original expose of allegations surrounding Clearstream Bank is central, and should not be summarily deleted.

I am also looking for a way to rate the importance of this and related articles. As it deals with the world's largest clearing house, not "a" bank for banks, for "the" bank for banks, in terms of public importance, and the seriousness of outstanding allegations, Clearstream articles should be treated very carefully.

Raising this here as per the instructions here> http://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Ernest_Backes&action=edit&redlink=1

 • Jamie isn't very active anymore. I'm also an administrator who happened to be watching Jamie's page. I looked over Backes' article. It was deleted through the uncontested deletion method called PROD. The article had no citations from reliable sources. I am only willing to undelete if I would put it in a sandbox in your userspace. Then you would need to improve the article to Wikipedia standards and get my approval before I post it for real. Are you willing to do this? Royalbroil 12:40, 24 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Maarten Stekelenburg

Hi JamieS93! I just saw that Angelo.romano asked for semi-protection to the Maarten Stekelenburg page because of excessive vandalism involving possible transfer and I believe that you applied it. This was made on the 30th of July 2011 and was made indefinite. I think this protection can now be lifted and would appreciate if you took a look. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Adri.guerra (talkcontribs) 19:19, 12 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 backlog elimination drive update

GOCE March 2012 Backlog Elimination progress graphs

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 Backlog elimination drive! Here's the mid-drive newsletter.

Participation: We have had 58 people sign up for this drive so far, which compares favorably with our last drive, and 27 have copy-edited at least one article. If you have signed up but have not yet copy-edited any articles, please consider doing so. Every bit helps! If you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late. Join us!

Progress report: Our target of completing the 2010 articles has almost been reached, with only 56 remaining of the 194 we had at the start of the drive. The last ones are always the most difficult, so thank you if you are able to help copy-edit any of the remaining articles. We have reduced the total backlog by 163 articles so far.

Special thanks: Special thanks to Stfg, who has been going through the backlog and doing some preliminary vetting of the articles—removing copyright violations, doing initial clean-up, and nominating some for deletion. This work has helped make the drive a more pleasant experience for all our volunteers.

Your drive coordinators – Dianna (talk), Stfg (talk), and Dank (talk)

GOCE March drive wrap-up

Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 backlog elimination drive
GOCE March 2012 Backlog Elimination progress graph

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 Backlog elimination drive! This is the most successful drive we have had for quite a while. Here is your end-of-drive wrap-up newsletter.

Participation

Of the 70 people who signed up for this drive, 40 copy-edited at least one article. Thanks to all who participated! Special acknowledgement goes out to Lfstevens, who did over 200 articles, most of them in the last third of the drive, and topped all three leaderboard categories. You're a superstar! Stfg and others have been pre-checking the articles for quality and conformance to Wikipedia guidelines; some have been nominated for deletion or had some preliminary clean-up done to help make the copy-edit process more fun and appealing. Thanks to all who helped get those nasty last few articles out of the target months.

Progress report

During this drive we were successful in eliminating our target months—October, November, and December 2010—from the queue, and have now eliminated all the 2010 articles from our list. We were able to complete 500 articles this month! End-of-drive results and barnstar information can be found here.

When working on the backlog, please keep in mind that there are options other than copy-editing available; some articles may be candidates for deletion, or may not be suitable for copy-editing at this time for other reasons. The GOCEreviewed tag can be placed on any article you find to be totally uneditable, and you can nominate for deletion any that you discover to be copyright violations or completely unintelligible. If you need help deciding what to do, please contact any of the coordinators.

Thank you for participating in the March 2012 drive! All contributions are appreciated. Our next copy-edit drive will be in May.

Your drive coordinators – Dianna (Talk), Stfg (Talk), and Dank (talk)

CCM performers

Maybe you would be interested in the discussion going on here: User talk:Boguslavmandzyuk#Alan Hall (musician). I'm getting the impression that the people I am talking to contest the notability of CCM performers and Christian music is not important enough to for any of it's less famous performers to be covered here on wikipedia. Personally, I thought I had cleary established the notability of Allan Hall of Selah), but my claims are being flat-out rejected without any consideration and reasons to say why they are wrong, the sources I provide (which are considered valid in every single article, excpet when it comes to Mr. Hall apparently) are being said to have no value, amidst offensive claims that "The Dove awards are pretty much meaningless". --BoguSlav 04:30, 22 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

GOCE May mid-drive newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors May 2012 backlog elimination drive mid-drive newsletter

Participation: Out of 49 people signed up for this drive so far, 26 have copy-edited at least one article. It's a smaller group than last drive, but we're making good progress. If you've signed up but haven't yet copy-edited any articles, please consider doing so. Every bit helps! If you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late. Template:J

On to the second million! – Your drive coordinators: Dank, Diannaa and Stfg
