Transnistria is a defacto independent region of the Republic of Moldova in Eastern Europe.

Transnistria holds popular elections for a head of state (President) and a legislature, but the human rights and political freedom record of the entity is questioned by international organizations. Politics of Transnistria takes place in a framework of a presidential republic, whereby the President of Transnistria is both head of state and head of government. Executive power is exercised by the government. Legislative power is vested in both the government and parliament.
