vbeauté is a high-end women’s skin-care line with its signature "It Kit" designed specifically for use with air travel. vbeauté has released both a travel and a home version of their product, each of which contains 5 out of the 6 currently available products. They include: a light anti-aging serum, an exfoliant, a foaming cleanser, a moisturizer, and a peptide-based eye creme.[1][2][3] vbeauté’s key ingredient is the Alpine Rose, a pink flower from the Swiss Alps known to have UV protective properties, it also contains extract from Nicotiana sylvestris. Together these two plant extracts combine to form a complex compound which has healing, anti-aging and protective properties.[4]
History
vbeauté was launched by investor and former hedge fund manager Julie Macklowe in 2011 after a 2009 incident in which the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) confiscated her toiletries before a flight to France. The replacement products she purchased in France gave her a severe allergic reaction and she set out to create a luxury cosmetics company that would comply with all of the regulations of the TSA.[5] Macklowe teamed up with the top molecular scientists from the Centre de Recherches Biocosmétiques (CRB High Performance Care) of Geneva to formulate her products. By 2011, Macklowe had raised over $4,000,000 for lab work and testing.
Products
Macklowe launched the line at a charity event coinciding with her 35th birthday.[6][7] At the time of its launch in November of 2011, the "It Kit" was carried at 37 stores, some of which include: Nieman Marcus, Fred Segal, Nordstroms, and Bergdorf Goodman.[8] The product was featured in O Magazine, which called it "a gorgeous way to keep jet lag at bay."[9]
The vbeauté line currently offers a total of 6 different products, while the “It Kit” contains only 5 of those products. The different types of product offered by vbeauté are: light anti-aging serum, exfoliant, foaming cleanser, moisturizer, peptide-based eye crème, and intense brightening treatment. All of vbeauté’s products are fragrance free, paraben free, gluten free, nut free, and oat free due to Macklowe’s own issues with sensitive skin.[10]
Reception
The “It Kit” has been praised for its unique packaging[11] [12] and was nominated as one of 3 finalists in its category for the HBA Global’s 2012 Beauty Industry’s International Package Design Awards (IPDA).[13]
