G-Unit Records Philly is a record label that is a subsidiary of 50 Cent's G-Unit Records. G-Unit artist, Tony Yayo was granted the position of CEO and President of the label. Many of the label's artists are based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Origins (2009)
After the success of former G-Unit subsidiary label "G-Unit South," (Now known as Young Buck's label Cashville Records), G-Unit Records founder 50 Cent, decided to create another subsidiary in 2009. Based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, G-Unit Philly would be run by G-Unit artist Tony Yayo. [1] In that same year, Yayo would introduce up-and-coming Philadelphia rapper Mike Knox, who would ultimately become the labels first signee, to 50 Cent .[2][3] The year 2009 also saw the signing of Philadelphia artists Tone Trump, Ive Vegas[4] and Cotic,[5] respectively.
2010-Present
In 2010, Tone Trump would be the first artist to leave g-unit philly, the same year Philadelphia rapper Gillie Da Kid and former Roc-A-Fella Philadelphia rapper Freeway, announced they had inked a deal with the label, and Freeway will release his up-coming album Diamond in the Rough through G-Unit Philly. In early 2011 other former Roc-A-Fella Records artists Beanie Sigel & State Property signed with the label. In 2012, it was announced that Beanie Sigel and State Property had signed to EMI while remaining at G-Unit Philly, also that same year Omillio Sparks and Peedi Peedi were signed to g-unit philly as solo-artists, Young Gunz were also signed as a duo but only Young Chris was signed as a solo-artist of the pair.
