Krrish 3 is an upcoming Bollywood superhero science fiction film. The film will be produced and directed by Rakesh Roshan.[1] The film will continue the story of Rohit Mehra and his superhero son Krrish, after Koi... Mil Gaya and Krrish,[2] this being the third film of the Krrish film series. Both the earlier films have received blockbuster status at the box office.[3] The film will be released during Diwali 2013 along with its 3D format.[4]
Cast
- Hrithik Roshan as Krishna Mehra (Krrish) and Rohit Mehra
- Priyanka Chopra as Priya Mehra
- Kangna Ranaut as a Superwoman[5]
- Nargis Fakhri [6][7]
- Vivek Oberoi as "Kaal" the antagonist [8]
- Arif Zakaria as a Nuclear Scientist
- Shaurya Chauhan as the female antagonist "Illusion"
- Archana Puran Singh as Priya Mehra's boss
- Rekha as Sonia Mehra (special appearance)
Production
The film is called both Krrish 2 and Krrish 3 in media reports. Hrithik Roshan confirmed that on similar lines as with the Rambo franchise (where the first movie was called First Blood, then came Rambo and then Rambo 3), the film will be called Krrish 3.[9] Director Rakesh Roshan also clarified the title to another media source, stating "The film is titled Krrish 3, not Krrish 2."[10]
Filming commenced on December 1, 2011 with Oberoi, Ranaut and Chopra. However, Hrithik Roshan will not participate in the first schedule due to a back injury.[11] Actress Shaurya Chauhan met with a freak accident while shooting for the film in Hyderabad, due to which the film has faced some delays. [12]
Casting
Following the success of Krrish, director Rakesh Roshan planned to develop a sequel for the film with Hrithik Roshan playing the protagonist again. He had penned the script in early 2007, but had to re-work on it as the storyline was drastically similar to the Hollywood blockbuster Spider-Man 3.[13] Priyanka Chopra was later confirmed to reprise the role of Priya. In this film, she will be seem married to Krishna Mehra.[14]
Next, Chitrangada Singh announced her inclusion in the project as a mutant.[15] Singh was later replaced by Jacqueline Fernandez, who also backed out of the film.[16][17] It was reported that actresses Nargis Fakhri and Esha Gupta were to replace Fernandez.[18][19] Kangna Ranaut has finally been confirmed to play the role.[18] It was also reported that Katrina Kaif would feature in a special role in the film, but this has not been confirmed as of yet.[20] Rakesh Roshan had earlier revealed to media that the main antagonist of film would be as powerful as the hero.[21] After talks with Ajay Devgn and Shah Rukh Khan fell through, Vivek Oberoi was eventually cast for the coveted role.[8][22]
In January 2011, Lakshmi Manchu claimed to have been offered a role in the film as the antagonist's girlfriend.[23] Riya Sen is rumored to play the role. The film has already started making profits. Its overseas distribution rights were sold to Eros International while Rakesh Roshan retained rights in Mumbai.[24] There was also initial speculation that Rekha would play a major role in the film, which was later denied as a rumour.[22]
Music
The songs of the film are being composed by Rajesh Roshan at Krishna Audio; whilst the background score will being composed by Salim-Sulaiman. The music rights of the film was acquired by T-Series for ₹6 crore (US$720,000).[25]
