"Black Jesus † Amen Fashion" is a song by American recording artist Lady Gaga from the special edition of her second studio album, Born This Way (2011). Upon the release of the album, "Black Jesus † Amen Fashion" debuted at number 172 on the UK Singles Chart on June 4, 2011, and on the Spanish Singles Chart at number 22 on September 9, 2011. According to Gaga, the song's lyrics speak about how she had an entirely new way of thinking after she moved to downtown New York when she was 19.
Background and recording
"Black Jesus † Amen Fashion" was co-written and co-produced by Lady Gaga (credited as Stefani Germanotta) and DJ White Shadow.[2] Gaga explained the concept behind the songs lyrics, stating that it is "a representation of an entirely new way of living," which is based on the "eye-opening" experiences she witnessed while living in New York City. She continued, saying "It's all about saying a new way of thinking is as easy as putting on an outfit."[3] .
Composition
"Black Jesus † Amen Fashion" was written and produced by DJ White Shadow and Lady Gaga. According to the sheet music published at Musicnotes.com by Sony/ATV Music Publishing, "Black Jesus † Amen Fashion" was written in the time signature of common time, with a tempo of 120 beats per minute. [4] It is composed in the key of D minor with Gaga's vocal range spanning from Bb3 to D5</ref>. It follows a basic sequence of Am–Dm/A–F/A–G as its chord progression.[citation needed]
