Remy Martin (born 1981 in The Bronx, New York ) is an American rapper and a member of Fat Joe's rap crew Terror Squad. She was featured on the groups hit song "Lean Back" from the group's sophomore album True Story and in the remix of M.O.P.'s "Ante Up". Her debut solo album, There's Something About Remy, was released on February 7, 2006.

Biography

Remy grew up in the Castle Hill section of the Bronx. Her life was anything but pleasant, where drug addictions, child prostitution, and HIV/AIDS-infections were present in her family, which ultimately left the children and home to Remy. She had to look after her four younger brothers and sisters and do household chores. She did rather well in school, but always needed a way to vent anger. She began writing poetry and turned it into raps. She held freestyle rap battles with children in the cafeteria and even people on the streets of Castle Hill. People began to speak of Remy and her impressive freestyles. After hearing of Remy, MC Big Pun instantly wanted to work with her. He mentored Remy for quite sometime up until his death, a tragic event in Remy's life. Fat Joe, though, with Steve Rifkind signed Remy to his new record label, SRC Records under Universal Records and made her a member of Terror Squad.

Terror Squad Member

Remy Ma got the attention of hip-hop fanatics in the summer hit Lean Back along side Fat Joe in Terror Squad. Upon her arrival in the group, fans named her as the best rapper of the group along with Fat Joe, some fans even named her has the best member because of her lyrical abilities. Her debut album therefore received some hype upon Hip-Hop fans because of her verse in the single "Lean Back". Remy Martin was also featured in the Lean Back Remix with Fat Joe, Ma$e, Lil Jon & ironically Eminem who is associated with 50 Cent.

Solo Career

So far Remy has released two singles from her album: Whuteva and Conceited (There's Something About Remy) with Conceited being the most successful of the two. Her new album features R&B Singer Keyshia Cole, new artist Ne-Yo, late MC Big Pun, Fat Joe (with whom she is in Terror Squad with), and Ivy Queen. The album is mainly rap and hip-hop mixed with a little bit of modern R&B. Growing up in the rough surroundings of the Bronx inspired most of the songs, which deal with everything from a hit & run accident to an early pregnancy to objectifying women to a friendship between a Puerto Rican and African-American girl.
