Starting afresh

Hi! I am starting to write or edit this article as it contains a lot of errors such as the topic Climate is there twice. Also the names of tourist spots are mentioned twice. It will take some time but I assure that every thing i change will be cited properly and there won't be any copyright violation. If unknowingly I make any mistake, then please kindly correct it and if there is any big change you are doing, please atleast notify me 24 hours before so that I can discuss it with you. And help is always welcome. Vishal14K 11:30, 18 April 2012 (UTC) Vishal14k

Villages

I have taken the liberty of removing the list of villages in Hisar District, which seems to be better suited to that article than here. I am, however, preserving the list here for ease of access, if it is decided to put it back. Cheers, LindsayHello 16:51, 26 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Issues (Main problems are stated in the brackets)
If addressed the problem, please use this: Problem
  1. Ref problem. Please see: Wikipedia:Citing sources (The biggest problem)
  2. Many times it is stated that: The city has its own..... (such sentences should not be there as you are not comparing any under developed city and no big deal if compared also). Such statements should either be removed or should be neutralized or can be made: The city has... (second, main problem)
  3. Hisar has a well developed network of health facilities, (not completely neutral) (Provided reference and there is neither any comparison nor any exaggeration.)
  4. Many grammatical errors (I wont post them all here but they should be fixed) (Tried my best.)
  5. City name (this section should be renamed to Etymology)
  6. Town Park is also a major attraction of the city. (neutrality)
  7. Agroha Dham is the most prominent religious place in the city (unsourced and how is it most prominent compared to others?)
  8. Other historical sites are the Tomb of Pranpir Badshah located inside Government College Complex. (unsourced)
  9. It is the biggest centre for Judo coaching in India. (unsourced)
  10. In the education, there is See: List of schools in Hisar and See: List of Universities and Colleges in Hisar in between, but it should be on the start of the section with: ({{see also|List of schools in Hisar|List of Universities and Colleges in Hisar}})
  11. Hisar is famous for its rich education facilities. The emergence of institutions providing coaching for various entrance examinations has led to students from other neighboring cities and towns coming to Hisar for quality education. Besides, there are also a large number of schools providing education. (completely unsourced and not neutral)
  12. Before the coming of British, indigenous schools provided elementary education. (coming?)
  13. Bus service is the major means of transport in the district (unsourced)
  14. Hisar has long been the medical care hub of Haryana. (since when and how? also unsourced)
  15. Before independence of India, monsoon or groundwater used to be the main sources of irrigation. (unsourced)
  16. The Hindus are not orthodox though they follow traditional beliefs. (how can you say that? This sentence should be removed as you dont have to say such things in an article to prove something)
  17. The diet of the people is simple but nutrient (how? It is like an essay type sentence and unsourced)
  18. The city has a thriving steel industry. (thriving? unsourced)
  19. Due to liberalization of economy, a lot of international brands have opened up their stores in the city. (unsourced)
  20. The city falls under the Hisar Lok Sabha constituency, thus contributing only one Member of Parliament (MP) (thus only one MP, doesn't sound good)
  21. The main characteristics of climate in Hisar are dryness, extremes of temperature and scanty rainfall. The city witnesses very hot summers and very cold winters. (unsourced)
  22. The average annual rainfall is around 450 mm most of which occurs during the months of July and August. (unsourced)
  23. It has grown to a vital position on the urban map of Haryana.(how? not neutral and unsourced)
  24. Its location is such that for any development away from the Grand Trunk Road, Hisar draws the attention (an odd sentence)
  25. The city, which was once marked by the recurring droughts and famines is now agriculturally one of the most developed in the State. (not neutral)
  26. The city remained as a major centre of the Indian independence movement (how and from and till when?)
  27. When Babur invaded India in the 1524-26, Hisar was an important strategic center of Ibrahim Lodi’s empire. Before the battle of Panipat in 1526, on reaching the Ghaggar, Babur learnt that the troops from Hisar, led by Hamid Khan, were advancing towards him. He then dispatched prince Humayun with a sufficient number of army who succeeded in defeating the enemy. Babur handed over the city of Hisar to Humayun as a reward for his success in his first military expedition. During his first reign a mosque known as Jama Masjid was built here by Amir Muhammad in 1535 AD. In 1540 AD, Hisar came under Sher Shah Suri when he defeated Humayun but Humayun took it back in 1555 AD and assigned it to Akbar. (unsourced)
  28. It again came into prominence in 12th century AD under the rule of Prithviraj Chauhan (how?)

This all should be addressed along with ref problems otherwise it cannot get promoted to GA →¡TheSpecialUser!TalkContributions 06:02, 16 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

will try and work on refs and rewording. But ca't guarantee anything. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 17:47, 17 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I close this review as no work on article is done by the editors who told to do nor by the nominator and thus sorry, but it was no where near to a GA. TheSpecialUserTalkContributions* 04:22, 21 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Is one week over?? I thought there were two days left for a week! I was just about to start it. But leave it. I am going to start again and will renominate it. Thanks for taking out some of your precious time for this. And thanks for writing down all the problems. Vishal14K 15:33, 21 May 2012 (UTC) Vishal14K | Talk

Good article nomination

I'm on it. And will rectify all the mistakes by June. Vishal14K 10:48, 23 May 2012 (UTC) Vishal14K | Talk

Sure. You can re-nominate it once you address the problems mentioned above. And please dont use this: (==stuff==) on the review page as it creates a mess on the article's talk page. TheSpecialUserTalkContributions* 10:50, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Renominating for GA

I have solved all the reference and neutrality related problems and have tried my best to remove all grammatical errors. So, I am again nominating it for GA. Vishal14K 20:13, 27 May 2012 (UTC) Vishal14K | Talk

Not reliable sources

Went through a few of references. Following are the observations:

  • "The city of steel". Hisar Metal. Retrieved 23 May 2012. -- This source i snot reliable for the information that the city is known as "City of steel". This needs better source.
  • About Hisar". Guru Jambheshwar University. Retrieved 23 May 2012. -- I have doubt over the acceptance of this source as reliable. You may not need to remove it right now, but please llok for better source.
  • "Geography of Hisar". Haryana Online. Retrieved 23 May 2012. Not a reliable source.
  • Sarasvati and its tributaries". The Hindu Universe. Retrieved 23 May 2012. Not reliable.
  • Sarasvati and its tributaries". The Hindu Universe. Retrieved 23 May 2012. Not RS.

Thanks for your suggestions. I will try my best to find more reliable citations and if I am not able to find one, I will inform you and you can take the final decision to keep the data or not. Regards, Vishal14K | Talk Vishal14K 19:41, 6 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have added more sources in the first observation and changed the sources of others except for one. Please take a look. If you think that the remaining one should be removed, I will agree but I have read that in the book "Hisar:Places and Personalities" which has already been mentioned in the section "Further reading". Hi,

Reference note 4 is a dead link: http://www.mydigitalfc.com/news/ambala-kanpur-taken-counter-magnet-towns-492

I found it on the WayBack Machine but it doesn't mention Hisar: http://web.archive.org/web/20110722185706/http://www.mydigitalfc.com/news/ambala-kanpur-taken-counter-magnet-towns-492. Does it have the info you want? You can use the link if it does. MathewTownsend (talk) 17:18, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
