Revision as of 09:08, 11 June 2012

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.

  • Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
  • Offer a correction if possible.
  • References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
  • Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 08:05 on 2 January 2025) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
  • Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
  • Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
  • No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
  • Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
  • Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

Errors in the summary of today's or tomorrow's featured article

Errors in In the news

Template:ITN-Update "At least 78 people are killed in a massacre in a village near Hama, Syria." should be revised to "at least 55" - this being the estimate currently quoted by the Syrian National Council[1]. LukeSurl t c 08:16, 9 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

According to the article you linked, the SNC are giving the figure of 78, while the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a group in the UK, is using "at least 55". State Syrian media says 9. Don't know who we should go with, will leave it up to admin experienced with this sort of stuff. Jenks24 (talk) 15:56, 9 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The words "at least" implies we're going with the lower estimate (the state media can generally be discounted as a reliable source). An alternative is to use non-specific language such as "many" or "dozens". LukeSurl t c 17:00, 9 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The article now lists 78 as the upper bound of the estimates. LukeSurl t c 09:21, 10 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Changed it to 55. --BorgQueen (talk) 09:39, 10 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Sharapova won the French Open days ago, so why so delayed? Also I suggest to add that she is one of only a few tennis players who won all five Grand Slams, or that she is now top-ranked. Regards.--GoPTCN 08:57, 11 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Errors in the current or next Did you know...

The lead image for DYK has a watermark, which is against the rules for use on Commons and on Wikipedia itself. I think with the watermark, it also violates the use of copyrighted images on the front page. It needs to be rectified.--293.xx.xxx.xx (talk) 02:55, 11 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Errors in today's or tomorrow's On this day...

'Englands Thirteen Colonies'

Should read Britain's Thirteen Colonies How is it possible on a site like wikipedia that supposedly intelligent Adult human beings STILL cant get the difference between England and the United Kingdom? If people cant be bothered to fact check FRONT PAGE pieces why bother with them at all? --Bigmeuprudeboy (talk) 08:19, 11 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed with the sentiment, if not that exact wording. Is no-one going to change this?--23230 talk 09:08, 11 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Reporters: please first correct today's or tomorrow's regular version.

I can spot three or four quite noticeable errors, all in one small segment

Its most recent recipient is {2012 winner} (pictured), for the role of {role}, in Play.

It looks like it's missing a picture and two or three links or templates (maybe they only work on the page). Here's the corresponding sentence from the page

Its most recent recipient is John Benjamin Hickey, for the role of Felix Turner, in the 2011 remake of The Normal Heart.

Maybe copy and paste this in then look for the picture.--JohnBlackburnewordsdeeds 00:48, 11 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, this would be good until the 2012 winner is announced, should be shortly. Albacore (talk) 00:50, 11 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Update to:
Its most recent recipient is Christian Borle, for the role of Black Stache, in Peter and the Starcatcher.
Done. I will let others rule on images, protection etc. Art LaPella (talk) 01:17, 11 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

And take File:FrankLangella07TIFF.jpg with it. Thanks. Albacore (talk) 01:09, 11 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
