Elizabeth Lodal began her career in education as an English and History teacher, and has served as principal of [[Joyce Kilmer Middle School]], [[Langston Hughes Middle School]], [[McLean High School]], and [[Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology]] in [[Fairfax County Public Schools]]. Among her many honors, Ms. Lodal was given the [[Rice University]] Distinguished [[Alumni]] Award in 1998 for her career achievements, the McLean Chamber of Commerce President's Award for Outstanding Chamber Member, and the Rabbi Richard Sternberger Social Justice Award for combating racism, bigotry and prejudice in Northern Virginia. The Fairfax County School Board named the McLean High School Library The Elizabeth V. Lodal Library in recognition of her contributions to the public schools of Fairfax County, Virginia. Ms. Lodal also serves on the Board of Trustees of The Washington Opera, the American Boychoir School, and Vinson Hall, a Navy, Marine, and Coast Guard retirement community. She was a founding member of the Women's Leadership Board of the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, the McLean Chamber of Commerce, and served on the Claude Moore Colonial Farm Board.
