Westfield Airport West is a shopping centre in the suburb of Airport West in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The centre hosts eight major stores, approximately 160 specialty stores including Village Cinemas. It is located on Louis Street, close to the Essendon Airport. The centre opened in 1976, and was upgraded in 1982 and 1999.
The Centre project
The Centre project has seen the closure of the BI-LO supermarket and has seen the launch of a new format, expanded Coles supermarket in the old BI-LO tenancy on 25th November 2010. The new Coles store opened, and shoppers are able to take advantage of a market place experience with the convenience of a supermarket. From fresh produce to health and beauty, it is a one-stop-shop for every need.
The existing Coles supermarket was divided into two new major stores, JB HI-FI & Rebel Sport
Upgrade works to the restroom facilities located near Target have been completed.
Coles, Aldi and Woolworths will continue to trade as per their usual trading hours. Yes it's Fresh Deli and Bakers Delight have re-opened as part of the change to the new Coles supermarket.
There will also be a new lift installed in the old Coles site, with access to the upper-level parking, along with upgrades to the restrooms and replacing the original pink tiling with terrazzo tiling, as per the rest of the centre.
Stores
Westfield Airport West features 162 stores all under the one roof. The majors include:
- Coles supermarket
- Kmart discount department store
- Target discount department store
- Woolworths supermarket
- Aldi supermarket
- Harris Scarfe department store
- Village Cinemas 8 screen cinema
Access
Westfield Airport West has a large outdoor and rooftop parking area, which is able to hold more than 2000 cars. No undercover parking is available in the area. Five bus routes service the centre, which stop in an interchange on Louis Street and connect shoppers with Moonee Ponds, Airport West, Niddrie, Strathmore, Broadmeadows, Tullamarine, Gladstone Park, Gowanbrae and Westmeadows.
The best way to get to Westfield Airport West from the Melbourne CBD is catching tram 59 from Elizabeth Street. The tram terminates in Airport West a minute's walk from the centre.
A new smart bus was introduced on April 5th 2010 to Westfield Airport West, servicing the areas to Chelsea via Broadmeadows, Greensbrough, Eltham, Doncaster, Nunawading, Glen Waverley and Springvale.
