October 2002: I've been around here a couple of months now, writing the odd article. I was happy with anonymity. But I saw the user preferences, and thought: "floating thingy... I need a floating thingy..." and so now I have a name, and with it, a floating thingy. And it is good. Still... now I am no longer merely a number... I am suddenly a recognisable name. Can I handle the exposure? For the sake of a floating thingy? We shall see. My hope is that my user name will blur into meaningless characters... I considered writing a fake IP address, but thought this tantermount to deception... Maybe if I added an extra block of digits...? but no. I chose to go with this. I may yet regret it. But then I scroll down, and with the page comes my floating thingy. And I think "ah...". For that is why I'm here. That and the free drink... |
