At the end of the 1929-30 season Juventus became champions. After the reorganisation of the Romanian football to a divisonary level, Juventus had 7 consecutive appearances in Liga I, from 1933 to 1940. After World War II the club succeeds to activate once again in Liga I, after 1st place in Liga II obtained before the war started. During 1946-1952 Juventus made 6 consecutive appearances in Liga I, changing its name a number of times: Distributia, Competrol, Petrolul, Partizanul and Flacăra. In 1952 the team moved in Ploiești and changed the team name in Flacăra Ploiești.

Fotbal Club Petrolul Ploiești (Romanian pronunciation: [peˈtrolul ploˈjeʃtʲ]) is a Romanian professional football club based in Ploiești, Prahova County, currently playing in the Liga I.

History

They won the Romanian championship 4 times, in 1929–30, 1957-1958, 1958-1959 and 1965-1966 and the Romanian Cup 2 times, in 1962–63, 1994–95.

Their best European performance was reaching the quarter-finals of the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in the 1962-63 edition after eliminating Spartak Brno from Czechoslovakia and Leipzig XI from the German Democratic Republic and being defeated by the Hungarian side Ferencvárosi TC. In the 1995-1996 they also managed to defeat Welsh team Wrexham FC narrowly over two games.

Petrolul wins their 2010–11 Liga II series, promoting back to the Liga I after the relegation from 2004.
