León Febres Cordero (born 1931) was President of Ecuador for a four-year term 10 August 1984 to 10 August 1988. He has been credited with helping to stop terrorism in Ecuador and improving the economy at his presidency. Later he became the mayor of Guayaquil for two terms (1992 - 2000) and then run successfully for a seat in Ecuador's unicameral legislative chamber. He is a member of the political party, Partido Social Cristiano, which he still leads.
