This should not be deleted: A reference to the current activity of the James McGregor Stewart Society in Halifax could be added, and very likely others. Stewart seems to easily pass the notability standard. [[User:Waysider11|Waysider11]] ([[User talk:Waysider11|talk]]) 00:24, 24 September 2012 (UTC)Waysider11 |

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because... (your reason here) --Rmalhotr (talk) 07:33, 22 September 2012 (UTC)
Hello. There are a couple of issues here. I am not very experienced in editing (in the grand scheme) and I created two pages, one with non-capitalized letters, on this person. I myself want the other page deleted but could not figure out how to do it. This page (with the three names all capitalized) should continue because Stewart was one of the leading lawyers of his day. There are many more things to add but he corresponded with cabinet ministers, worked on leading cases and was instrumental in the removal of a Dalhousie University president. He left a legacy that includes acting as a mentor to a lawyer that already has a wikipedia page. That in itself suggests notability because Covert would clearly regard Stewart as far more significant. Rmalhotr (talk) 07:33, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

Contested deletion
This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because..the article clearly asserts Stewart's importance. A quicksearch on Google Books confirms the depth of references for his life. --Gareth E Kegg (talk) 09:15, 22 September 2012 (UTC)
Although a very unsophisticated user, in all my years of minimal Wikipedia contributions, I have never encountered this problem, and have usually created pages on far more obscure figures. I think the new tag should be deleted and the page retained for again the fact that (i) Stewart had a CBE, an honour rarely bestowed on Canadians, (ii) he was the leading corporate lawyer of his time in Canada (iii) his mentee, Frank Covert, has a page which is NOT deleted (iv) he was enormously influential in political circles and served on the boards of directors of numerous companies (v) is unusual as a lawyer with polio. The reasons for not deleting are staggering; those are just a sample. He has been subject to a full length bio. It would be a huge mistake to delete. He is obviously notable.
