Neil Geoffrey Turok (born 1959) is a South African-born cosmologist. Along with Stephen Hawking, he developed the Hawking-Turok Instanton theory relating to the development of the universe.

Since 1998, he has been Professor of Mathematical Physics at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP) at the University of Cambridge, where he is a work colleague of Hawking. He had previously held a research post at Princeton University. His father, Professor Ben Turok, is an economist and an ANC Muizenberg member of parliament, as well as a former anti-apartheid campaigner who fought for equality amongst all races in South Africa.

Turok earned his Ph.D. at Imperial College in London, under the supervision of Tom Kibble, a prominent English cosmologist whose seminal work initiated the field of cosmic strings. During that time, Turok formulated the theory of "textures" as an explanation of cosmic structure, now largely discredited.

Turok quick-started research of the instanton process as an explanation for the beginning of the universe (with Hawking), a field of research that gained impetus in the late 1990s, but which later subsided.

In 2003, Professor Turok founded of the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences.
