State Route 296 is a north–south state route located in the east-central part of the U.S. state of Georgia. The route travels from U.S. Route 1/U.S. Route 221/State Route 4 north of Louisville to State Route 17 northwest of Wrens.
Route description
From its southern terminus at U.S. Route 1/U.S. Route 221/State Route 4/State Route 17, State Route 296 travels to the north-northwest. After intersecting State Route 88, the route assumes more of a northerly direction to the town of Stapleton, where it intersects State Route 102. After leaving Stapleton, State Route 296 assumes a more northeasterly routing. After intersecting State Route 80, the route leaves Jefferson County, briefly entering Glascock County. Shortly after entering Warren County, the route meets its northern terminus at State Route 17.
State Route 296 mainly serves to connect U.S. Route 1 and State Route 17 with the town of Stapleton. Largely a rural route, State Route 296 sees an Average Annual Daily Traffic of less than 2,000 vehicles.
