Wikipedia Awards

A number of articles from Wikipedia's Education Program have won internal Wikipedia awards, including a number from our Canadian program. We encourage all students to nominate their articles, if they feel comfortable doing so. For more information about the awards, feel free to contact your professor, a campus ambassador or one of the coordinators of the Canadian Education Program.

en.wikipedia has a hierarchy of article ratings, ranging from "Stub" to "Featured article". It's explained here. Personally, I prefer to work near the bottom of the quality ladder :-) but with a great deal of effort, it is possible to climb a few rungs up the ladder (if there are enough sources to support it). The A/B/C classes are often overlooked but I think that they are a good target to aim for, especially if you only have limited time in your class (it can take a while to get a Good Article through review) bobrayner (talk) 21:55, 3 October 2012 (UTC)

Hey, Levi here. Just another initial talk post. Does anyone know if there are specific set dates for each of the steps listed on the main page? I am not sure if I am totally on the right track with everything we're supposed to do for this assignment. In the first class was there any discussion about expected length of our article postings, or is a lot of our mark going towards peer editing and stuff?

Well, I can't help with dates - that's a question for your tutor. However, you seem to be doing OK with talkpages. If you have any specific articles that you're going to be editing, it would be very helpful to post that list here. Remember, on "talk" pages it's a good idea to sign your comments, by putting four tildes ~~~~ at the end. Bob, I don't think I can add anyone to our Moodle page unless they are a student or faculty. But I don't think it would help you any. I'm not doing any coordination there. We talk about this in class, however. This coming Friday our two campus ambassadors are going to show students (and me) how to create links and references. What we need is one sandbox associated with this course site that all students can use to upload their first attempts at their section of the article. I have told students to upload something (anything!) to their own sandboxes associated with their account, and then play with it. Try to make a heading. Try to change the text. Play with the formatting. I'm going to try that myself, now that I'm back from a week in Vancouver. Penny Powers (talk) 22:22, 29 October 2012 (UTC)
