Javed Bashir Khan (Urdu: جاوید بشیر خان; born on Aug 8, 1973) is one of the renowned classical singer in Pakistan. He has been the lead vocalist of the famous sufi classical band Mekaal Hasan Band. He was awarded Pride of Performance civil award on 14th Aug, 2012.
Early Life
Javed Bashir Khan belongs to a family of great singers. His grand fathers Ustaad Gajjo Khan and Phajjo Khan were great classical singers of Jalandhar (India) of their time. His father Bashir Ahmad khad was a great soofi qawal. Javed Bashir started performing in his childhood with his father. His official career started in 1992. He took the official training under his uncle, Ustad Mubarik Ali Khan, who has been awarded with the pride of performance award and is a well known classical singer of current time.
Javed Bashir Khan availing from the Jalandhar Nalan Gharana was born on 8th August 1973 and has been singing since childhood. Javed's father, Bashir Ahmed Khan was a qawaal and this style of singing is the one Javed has been commonly associated with over the years. Javed Bashir studied extensively under the great classical singer, Ustaad Mubarik Ali Khan [1], and displays his command of the classical tradition in his work.
Career and Albums
Javed Bashir Khan started his singng career at the age of 12 with his father. He initially released few Qawali albums and performed in live shows and concerts. In 2000, he joined a very popular sufi classical Band Mekaal Hasan Band as a lead vocalist. Alongside Javed has started his solo career with the release of his album Subrang. His exceptional talents have earned him the greatest of respect amongst his peers and contemporaries.
With Mekaal Hasan Band, Javed acheived mainstream success with both their albums Sampooran and Saptak (Urdu: سپتک). His third album with Mekaal Hasan Band is coming soon with the name Andholan.
Javed Bashir Khan also released his solo album with his younger brother (Akbar Ali Khan Udru:اکبرعلی خان and Amir Ali Khan Urdu:عامرعلی خان) with the name SubRang[2] in 2011.
