My Ph.D was in applied mathematician working at the University of Cambridge University on the consistent histories approach to quantum mechanics. After that I worked at the University of Hokkaido in Japan for four years on snow avalanches. I then returned to Cambridge for 11 years researching fluid dynamics with a particular interest in snow avalanches, granular flows and gravity currents. Currently I am working at the Swiss Federal Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research in Davos, but I will soon be moving to the university of Durham as Professor of Geohazards.
