Locri Epizefiri was an ancient city founded on the Ionian sea near Capo Zefirio, in the VIII century b.c. by the Locrii Ozoii peoples.

Due to hard winds in the place, they move to the actual Locri site, where the city was founded.

After one century, was created a wall around the city, with big blocks.

Around the city there are several necropoli, some of with very large.

Ionic temple of Marasà In the first half of V century b.c., the Locrians destroyed the archaic temple and rebuild a new temple in ionic style. The temple was realised by Syracusean Syracuse architets working into Locri in the year 470 b.c. on idea of Ierone (tyramn of Syracuse)

The new temple has the same place than the previous but it has a different orientation. Unfortunately the temple was destroyed in the XI century.

The size of the temple were 45,5 meters x 19,8 meters.

The cell is free by supports on the central axes. The pronaos had two columns. The temple has 17 ionic columns on the long side, and 6 on the front. The high of the temple was 12 meters.
