Reto Zanni (born 9 February 1980) is a Swiss footballer who plays for SC Buochs.
Football career
Zanni started off playing football for SC Buochs and then was scouted by Grasshopper-Club Zürich subsequently starting his professional career with Grasshopper-Club in 1998 at the age of 18. He started in the youth squad, where he played for 2 years until he was 20, only playing occasionally in the first team. He was eventually brought into the first team squad after suffering a few injuries. He played well on his debut and kept his place in the team. He went on to play 46 times for the Grasshopper, scoring 1 goal. During the 2001/02 season, he was on loan at FC St. Gallen where he played 28 games, but returning to the Grasshopper-Club, he played just one game in the 2002/03 season. He left the Grasshopper-Club in 2003 after 5 years at the club.
He joined FC Thun in 2003 and there he broke into the first team immediately. During his time at Thun he rose to be one of the team's best players. He played well for one and a half seasons until the end of 2004.
Swiss giants FC Basel signed him on 15 January 2005. Under Basel's trainer Christian Gross Zanni played in the first team immediately and during the season 2005/06 he played in every one of the teams 36 league games. Despite playing a key part in the Basel first team he surprisingly never played for Switzerland. However, under Basel's new trainer Thorsten Fink Zanni lost his place in the team, playing in only eight of the 36 games. After six and a half years in Basel, during the winter break 2010/11, and transferred free of charge to FC Vaduz in the Swiss Challenge League.
