WP:CFDS

Categories may be listed here if they fall under the criteria specified below. Deletion and de-listing may occur after 48 hours if there are no objections. They must be tagged with {{subst:cfr-speedy|newname}} so that users of the categories are aware of the proposal. This delay is to allow for objections over correct spelling, etc. to be made and to ensure that items are not processed that do not meet the criteria.

Categories that qualify for speedy deletion (per Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion, e.g. "patent nonsense", "recreation", categories that have been empty for four days) can be tagged with the regular speedy tags, such as {{db|reason}}, and no delay is required for these. Renaming under C2E can also be processed instantly, as it is a variation on G7.

Contested requests can be removed from this list after 48 hours. If the nominator wants to continue the process they need to submit the request as a regular CfD using the instructions there.

Speedy criteria

The category-specific criteria for speedy deletion, renaming, or merging are strictly limited to: From 20 November 2009 to 4 December 2013 the policy page Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion transcluded the criteria for deletion of categories from a discussion page instead of having them directly coded in the policy page. To see the history of that section of the speedy deletion policy during that period, see the editing history of Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Speedy/Criteria. For current discussion page for the same material see Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Speedy#Speedy criteria.

A nomination to merge or rename, brought forward as a full CfD, may be speedily closed if the closing administrator is satisfied that:

The nomination clearly falls within the scope of one of the criteria listed above, and;
No objections have been made within 48 hours of the initial nomination.

If both these conditions are satisfied, the closure will be regarded as having been as a result of a speedy nomination. If any objections have been raised then the CfD nomination will remain in place for the usual 7-day discussion period, to be decided in accordance with expressed consensus.

  - A concern about the venues categories. The country-specific parents for all of these venues categories is "Athletics in FOO". If local usage calls the sport "athletics", why are we disambiguating the country-specific categories for athletics venues? The container Category:Athletics (track and field) venues should be disambiguated, because different countries have different usages. But just as the U.S. category is Category:Track and field venues in the United States, shouldn't the categories for countries that use "athletics" use that term alone?       - Yes, it did—I closed it here. There were few comments, and on reflection, the rationale doesn't seem to make sense to me given that we usually favour local usages.         I don't know that it is bad, it just seems to go against what is usually done for naming by country categories when different countries use different terminology. If they are all going to be renamed that way, including the U.S. one, that's better than half one way and half the other, I suppose. But if the U.S. one is given special dispensation and not renamed (it is presently the only one that is not renamed or not nominated), I would continue to oppose—why should the U.S. one get special "local usage" treatment, but not all the other country categories? Category:Olympic athletes of Taiwan to Category:Olympic athletes (track and field) of Chinese Taipei – C2D, athletes compete for Chinese Taipei at the Olympics, similar to how Category:Olympic athletes of Great Britain compete for Team GB, and not UK. C2C the head category is Category:Olympic athletes (track and field) by country, which includes "(track and field)" per Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2011 February 9 the entire heirarchy needs speedy renaming as well (or at least the non-English countries). -- 70.24.245.16 (talk) 22:13, 4 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose use of speedy here. Taiwan did participate in some Olympic Games as "Taiwan": eg, Taiwan at the 1964 Summer Olympics. It also participated in some as the "Republic of China": eg, Republic of China at the 1972 Summer Olympics. "Chinese Taipei" has only been in usage at the Olympics from 1984. It's a messy area, and renames in this area should not be attempted via the speedy process. Personally, I would think saying they are from "Taiwan" or the ROC gives a broader meaning than limiting it to those who competed for "Chinese Taipei". We currently have Category:Taiwan at the Olympics, Category:Republic of China at the Olympics and Category:Chinese Taipei at the Olympics. This doesn't look to me like a speediable issue. it's more complex than just fixing one or two "outlier" category names that don't conform. Yes, it's the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, without the comma (sadly). But this category isn't about the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst; it's about one of its predecessors, the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. I should add that the official name of the institution was just the Royal Military College, although it was often known as Sandhurst. Still oppose. From the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst it looks to me like "Royal Military College" was just a previous name of the institution. Otherwise it couldn't have been active since 1802. As categorization by former names is not common, this should probably merged to Category:Graduates of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. As a graduate of the RMAS (and I know inside knowledge is not a reliable source...) it's absolutely clear and common knowledge (as evidenced by the two articles we have) that the Academy is a separate, new institution and not merely a reincarnation of the College. Beg pardon, I was mistaken about WP! But I'm not about the institutions. The article on the RMAS makes it clear that the Academy is the successor to four different predecessors, only one of which was the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. Graduates of the Addiscombe Military Seminary do not belong in the category Category:Graduates of the Royal Academy Sandhurst and by the sdame token neither dothey belong in Category:Graduates of the Royal Military College, Sandhurst.
